On Steam and other aggregators, Mindseye reviews remain relatively unenthusiastic. The debut game from Build A Rocket Boy, the studio created by former GTA, Red Dead Redemption, and Rockstar producer Leslie Benzies, Mindseye has been criticized by both players and publications, which cite issues with technical performance, repetitive mechanics, and uninteresting visual design. However, on some platforms, including social media, posts have appeared that have a more positive timbre, likening Mindseye to the launch version of Cyberpunk 2077 and praising the game's narrative premise. In several instances, these posts have the exact same wording and punctuation, and are characteristic of bot-generated comments uploaded by fake accounts. In response to suggestions that it has engineered these posts to spread favorable sentiment about Mindseye, Build A Rocket Boy emphatically says it does not and will not use bots.

Specifically, Build A Rocket Boy replies to Mike Channell, co-presenter of YouTube channel Outside Xbox. On their own X account, Channell shares images of two comments, from separate user accounts, that were posted beneath a recent one-star review of Mindseye. The two posts are identically written and punctuated. They are quoted here with the grammatical errors maintained: "I'm loving the story, simulation theory - ancient aI [sic]. Only had a few bugs but others haven't been so lucky. reminds me of how cyberpunk launched [sic]." Alongside the images, Channell poses an open question: "Is Mindseye paying for bots to comment under reviews or something?"

Other X users reply to Channell's post, some of them sharing what appear to be further examples of identically written posts that praise, or faintly praise, Mindseye. In response, the developer of the sandbox game asserts that it has never used bots.

"Thanks for flagging," Build A Rocket Boy says. "Taking a minute to set the record straight and refute this, and other false claims that are swirling. BARB has never used any bots nor will we. We're pumped to see players loving the latest Mindseye update."

Mindseye bots statement: A response from sandbox game developer Build A Rocket Boy regarding Mindseye

Over on Steam, Mindseye's rating based on player responses is 'mostly negative'; 37% of user reviews are favorable. Aggregated critic reviews mean that Mindseye is currently the worst-rated videogame of 2025.
