Phasmophobia roadmap 2026 - 1.0 launch, a new map, and more

What's in the Phasmophobia 2026 roadmap? 2025 was far from a quiet year for Phasmophobia. There was a new map, new ghosts, and thrilling seasonal events. Kinetic Games has now revealed its plans for this year, though, and it's even more chock-full of content than the last.

Over five years on from its early access release, Phasmophobia remains one of our favorite horror games on PC. It looks cool, the atmosphere is tense, and the developer has been sure to update tools, mechanics, and more over the years. Among the things that are still desperately awaiting an update, though, is character design, and the 2026 Phasmophobia roadmap lists this long-awaited change among heaps of new content. Here's the lowdown.

The 2026 Phamophobia roadmap includes the long-awaited 1.0 release, officially moving the game out of early access. That's not all, though, as there's also a huge character overhaul, a new map, the Horror 2.0 update, and more.

Unfortunately, there are no set dates for these changes and updates, but we'll still outline everything that's coming to Phasmophobia in one of the biggest years for the game since its inception.

Character overhaul - Q1

The only roadmap item for which we have a rough window is the character overhaul, which has been teased for some time now. Arriving sometime between now and April 2026, this overhaul adds new character models to Phasmophobia, replacing the frankly clunky and hilarious models currently in-game.

While the current player characters are very meme-worthy, it's high time for something that looks a little nicer, both on your identity card and in multiplayer (you can't really see yourself in solo, so it doesn't matter all that much).

This overhaul doesn't just change how your base character model looks, though. New customization items are set to be added, alongside, most excitingly, new animations. This would affect solo play as well as multiplayer, as you can see yourself carrying out certain actions, such as taking medicine or turning equipment on and off.

Unity update and Switch 2 release

The reason we mention the Switch 2 release here is that we think this comes before the 1.0 launch. In a press release we received about the roadmap, the wording around the release of 1.0 very specifically mentions that it is "set to release across all platforms simultaneously this year". Therefore, for a better idea of the 1.0 release date, we may have to wait until the Switch 2 release date is confirmed.

Also, the Unity update presumably comes around the same time as the Switch release, "meaning a smoother gameplay experience for players".

Map changes

The release of Nell's Diner in 2025 was exciting, as the new map was unlike any we'd ever seen, and is now one of our firm favorites to play. Thanks to the 2026 roadmap, we now know another new map is planned for this year, but so far, there is no information as to what it might be. All we've seen so far is the blurred teaser image in the roadmap infographic - feel free to let us know if you have any ideas, because we don't (please, please, let it be a movie theater).

We do know a little more about two map reworks that are on the way. Both Tanglewood and 13 Willow Street are getting the treatment. It sounds as though Willow Street will be getting slightly more attention, while Tanglewood retains a similar layout, with changes being more focused on new interactions and smaller layout changes. Apparently, there will also be "a mystery lurking in the shadows of 6 Tanglewood Drive waiting to be uncovered". Oooh.

Horror 2.0

Here's a good one. 'Horror 2.0' was the name of an update announced years ago, and which has been pushed back time and time again, much to fans' chagrin. It has been featured in roadmaps just like this one, but we're feeling good about it this time. We think. No longer named 'Horror 2.0', this revamp is now simply rolled into the 1.0 update as a 'horror rework'.

Much like 'Horror 2.0', though, this change is set to include new animations, jump-scares, more terrifying ghost models, and other changes to make this already terrifying game even scarier.

Phasmophobia 1.0 release

Alongside the horror rework, the official full launch of Phasmophobia is also set to include a 'lore update'. We're not sure what this means yet, but we can't wait to see what else is included when Phasmophobia 1.0 is fully announced.

Alongside all the huge additions confirmed in the Phasmo 2026 roadmap, there's plenty of returning content too, including seasonal events. With all this going on, you might have missed the recent addition of two new Phasmo ghost types to the multiplayer game, so make sure you're familiar with them and their evidence weaknesses, be it freezing temps or something else.
