Atomic Exile is an extraction shooter and survival game set in a Fallout 1 world

Have you ever wanted Fallout to be more chaotic? A chance encounter with a deathclaw can get pretty hairy, but the VATS system in modern Fallout allows you to take a beat, get acquainted with the situation, and undertake the perfect reaction. The original games had turn-based tactics. What if you could wander the waste with no other recourse besides your preparation and your trigger finger? Atomic Exile mixes the chaos of any good twin-stick or extraction shooter with the methodical and granular systems of an RPG.

The game has a top-down pixelated look, which might imply simple arcade action. But Atomic Exile has some serious granularity. You'll have to manage your inventory as you pick up loot and you can swap out most aspects of your weapons, like the scope, magazine, grip, barrel, and more. Enemies wound individual parts of your body-arms, legs, torso, and head-and you'll have to heal them individually too. Between bouts of chaotic shooting, you have to engage with the granular customization of the best RPGs.

The rest of the game is classic Fallout. You'll wander through ancient ruins and bandit camps, fighting off undead and living alike. You can accept quests for NPCs back in civilization and barter the items you find out in the world with traders.

Atomic Exile just released into early access. You can pick it up on Steam at a launch discount of $13.49 until June 30.
