I love Lies of P, I love Elden Ring, and I love the Star Wars Jedi duology, but most of all, I love Nioh 2, which remains my favorite game in the soulslike genre. It features the challenging aspects that the genre is most known for, but with energetic combat that rivals even Sekiro, with flashy combos full of impact and strength. If you've been looking for the right time to dive into Nioh 2, now's your chance while it's at its lowest price.

As with most of the best soulslike games, Nioh 2's combat is easy to learn and hard to master. Complex layers of strategy and build make it the gameplay feel endless, giving you plenty of reasons to start a new run as soon as your last one ends. Meanwhile, your character also holds a powerful ability, one that is so badass, it easily jumps up the best RPGs list for me too - more on that later.

Set in the Sengoku period of Japan, and before the events of the first game, you play as a half-human, half-Yokai character in a world inhabited by cruel bandits, vicious Yokai, and unlikely allies. Admittedly, the story isn't the game's strongest aspect, but really, it's just there to give context to its fantastic action game mechanics.

As a Shiftling, you not only have the ability to fight the forces occupying Japan as a human, but you're also able to use Yokai Shift to turn into a brutal monster, capable of demolishing anything that stands in your way. It adds a level of strategy, allowing you to choose when the best time to use your power is, in order to defeat those pesky bosses that keep getting you killed.

However, it's not an easy game, even with the aforementioned Yokai Shift. Varying stances necessitate switching your combat style on the fly while you try to save this rendition of Japan, but it's equally fun to treat Nioh 2 like a fast-paced hack-and-slash game, although it may make it a bit more difficult than learning all of the mechanics.

As the Nioh 3 release date approaches, there's no better time to dive into the world of the second game, especially since you can buy Nioh 2 - The Complete Edition for just $22.49 / £22.49 on Humble Bundle, which includes the base game and the three DLC expansions at its lowest price ever. I've bought the game at full price, once on PS4 and once on PC, and honestly - it's one you shouldn't miss out on.

Of all the upcoming PC games that are on the horizon, it's Nioh 3 I'm most excited for - largely due to how great the last game was. The fantasy game is one I constantly return to, and after writing this article, I'm going to download it again for another go - there's nothing quite like the rush of decimating a boss after becoming a powerful Yokai.
