How We’ll Entertain at Home in 2026: Top Trends to Know

Home entertaining in 2026 is all about a renewed desire to make every gathering feel meaningful, with hosts trading perfection for personality and embracing global inspiration, nostalgic comforts, and sensory-driven experiences that bring people closer together. Whether it’s a grazing table piled high with seasonal bites, a punch bowl brimming with vibrant flavors, or candlelit tables dressed in vintage linens and mismatched vases, the trends shaping the year ahead are all about warmth and connection.

Experts across food, beverage, design, and lifestyle agree—guests want to feel transported, considered, and cared for without hosts feeling overwhelmed. Ahead, they share the hosting trends that will define gatherings in the year ahead.

Decorating Trends

Garden-Inspired Tablescapes

In 2026, tables are becoming both decorative and delicious as hosts move beyond traditional floral centerpieces to incorporate foraged accents, fresh produce, and garden-picked greenery. Herbs, citrus branches, and seasonal fruits are layered into tablescapes, while pomegranates pull double duty as place card holders. “People are craving nature, seasonality, and authenticity,” says Bridget Bitza, chief culinary officer at Butler’s Pantry.

Tables That Glow

Drawing inspiration from restaurant design, hosts are now using tabletop and cordless lighting to soften the mood, creating a warmer, more intimate atmosphere with flattering light. “Guests are paying attention to the small details rather than the wide shot, with lamps creating a cozy and styled look without requiring florals or elaborate installations,” says Josh Spiegel, founder and chief creative officer of Birch Event Design. The candlelight comeback is also trending because it bridges nostalgia with modern hosting—effortless, elegant, and universally flattering to any tabletop, adds Francesca DiSalvo-Follmer, a consulting partner at The Waverly.

Modern Equestrian Elegance Meets Bold Textiles

Inspired by the timeless charm of the countryside, this look blends rustic equestrian touches with a refined, modern sensibility. “You don’t need a stable—just subtle nods like brass horseshoe bowls or glass-framed riding prints,” says Jenny Reimold, a featured finder & interior expert at HomeGoods. Or consider printed and patterned textiles, from table linens to throws. “Fabrics set the tone faster and more affordably than any other décor element,” Spiegel says. “As people host more intimate gatherings, they want a cohesive look that feels intentional without requiring major installations.”

Sustainable Style and Conscious Entertaining

Eco-friendly materials and sustainable practices are now part of stylish entertaining, with reclaimed wood, bamboo, cork, and artisanal pieces layered alongside reusable linens and servingware. “Homeowners are craving calm and connection, and they’re finding it in nature-forward entertaining spaces,” says Morgan Olsen, an interior design expert at Thumbtack. Natural materials, organic textures, and greenery dominate tablescapes and living spaces, while warm woods, stone, and earth-toned palettes create a soothing backdrop for gatherings. “People want parties that make a statement without costing the planet,” adds lifestyle expert Mackenzie Biehl.

Soft and Fresh Colors

Hosts are embracing a wide-ranging palette that moves effortlessly between soft and moody, playful and grounded. Dusty rose and muted blush neutrals are emerging as a modern alternative to jewel tones. “They’re bold enough to make a statement, yet neutral enough for people to feel comfortable investing in,” Spiegel says. At the same time, tonal schemes are gaining traction, Soft greens like olive leaf bring a sense of calm into entertaining spaces while deep hues such as burgundy, forest green, and charcoal add drama without sacrificing elegance.

Mono-Blooms and Petite Bouquets

Hosts are embracing mono-botanical moments, arranging clusters of a single flower type, such as chamomile, garden roses, and olive branches, placed throughout the home for a chic, minimal look that pairs naturally with modern décor.

"Monobloom arrangements are the simplest and easiest way to create an impactful statement with flowers in your home. They’re foolproof, stylish, and elevate any space without stress,” says Michelle Edgemont, a sales director at Poppy Flowers. At the same time, wild and effortless blooms, often sourced from local markets or grocery stores, are filling mismatched vases, jars, or collected vessels.

Party Food Trends

Celebrating Local Flavors at Home

In 2026, entertaining becomes a way to spotlight nearby flavors, with hosts curating menus that reflect their immediate surroundings. From spreads inspired by neighborhood bakeries to dishes built around ingredients from local farms and markets, “People are finding meaningful connections through the communities they are part of, and they want to share those experiences with others. Hyper-local entertaining offers an easy, intimate way to personalize menus, celebrate community, and support local businesses in a home setting,” Bitza says.

Tables That Invite You to Snack and Savor

Grazing remains the go-to approach for home entertaining, with hosts embracing abundant, artful spreads that feel effortless yet elevated. “People want gatherings that feel relaxed, social, and low-pressure. Grazing boards allow guests to nibble, mingle, and make themselves at home while freeing hosts from rigid timing,” says Diana Petriella, a sommelier at Baldacci Family Vineyards. Oversized boards and platters layered with cheeses, charcuterie, fresh produce, whipped butters and compotes serve as both menu and décor, encouraging guests to snack, wander, and eat at their own pace.

Restaurant-Level Dining Experiences

Private chefs are bringing fine dining into the home, allowing hosts to enjoy their guests without the stress of cooking. “This concept is trending because people are busier than ever, and it allows the host to sit back and curate a special experience for their guests while enjoying their company,” says Fallon Carter, the founder and creative director at Fallon Carter Events.

Globally Curated Menus and Travel-Inspired Dining

Menus are leaning international, offering Japanese sushi, Korean-style wings, Indian-inspired small bites, Latin-influenced appetizers, and French style crepes for dessert. “Your guests will be wowed by the thought put into your globally inspired menu,” says Renee Patrone Rhinehart, the CEO and founder of Party Host Helpers and Events by Renee.

Think Mediterranean-inspired mezze tables—filled with dips, olives, grilled vegetables, and flatbreads celebrate variety, color, and texture, allowing hosts to impress without the hassle of cooking, notes Suzy Karadsheh, founder and CEO of The Mediterranean Dish. A global menu invites guests to interact with and learn about food through immersive eating experiences

Nostalgic Comforts

Home cooks are turning to the past for inspiration, with simple, scratch-made dishes rooted in childhood traditions bringing warmth and connection to the table. “Serving a dish tied to a beloved family member instantly creates meaning," says Susan Sarich, CEO and founder of SusieCakes Bakeries. "Nostalgic foods made with recognizable ingredients make guests feel cared for." Think desserts that instantly transport you back to childhood—familiar flavors that feel comforting and emotionally resonant.

"Then reimagine them in a more elevated way, reinventing classic sweets through modern techniques, unexpected flavor pairings, and refined ingredients," says Melany Gonzalez, pastry chef at the Saddle River Inn. For example, brownie “bites” plated with vanilla ice cream and a drizzle of espresso syrup, turning a childhood favorite into a composed dessert or a dressed-up rice Krispie treat made with browned butter, flaky sea salt, and a thin layer of dark chocolate.

Smaller Desserts Served Family-Style

Shared dessert spreads are on the rise, inviting guests to sample multiple flavors rather than committing to one large plate. “Most guests would rather try several flavors than commit to one large dessert,” Gonzalez says. “Smaller portions keep guests curious, excited, and eager to try a little of everything. They also make gatherings more inclusive and engaging—a variety of petite sweets creates space for different dietary needs—vegan, gluten-free, nut-free— making it easier for everyone to enjoy dessert so no one feels left out.”

Smarter Cooking, Less Waste

Once limited to professional kitchens, zero-waste cooking is now influencing home entertaining, where simple habits like designing menus around whole ingredients, repurposing scraps, and giving leftovers a second life add thoughtful, chef-driven dimension while keeping sustainability front and center.

“The focus is on using every ingredient to its fullest potential,” says Daniel Pundik, executive chef at The Ben Hotel. “By turning whole vegetables into multiple elements—roots cooked, greens used, and trimmings transformed into sauces, stocks, or garnishes—you can maximize flavor while minimizing waste. Adopting zero-waste practices not only conserves valuable resources but also reduces greenhouse-gas emissions, aligning with global sustainability and climate-action goals.”

Cocktail and Beverage Trends

Multi-Sensory, Storytelling Cocktails

At-home mixology in 2026 is becoming both theatrical and sensory, with cocktails that delight the eyes as much as the palate. “With bar-quality tools now accessible and social media driving the visual appeal of beverages, people want drinks that deliver on both flavor and aesthetics,” Bitza says.

Beyond presentation, cocktails are becoming narratives through artisanal provenance and layered, complex flavor profiles. “Think drinks that don’t just taste good, they tell a story,” says Jenna Carlson-Carvalho, director of restaurants & bars at the InterContinental Boston. “At home, this translates into bold presentations—smoked glassware, edible flowers, crunchy sugar rims, and dramatic garnishes that turn a simple pour into a moment. Hosts are leaning into hyper-local ingredients...the result is a drink that feels less like a cocktail and more like a sensorial journey.”

Punch Makes a Comeback

Exotic and nostalgic punches are taking center stage in home entertaining, offering both visual appeal and easy service. “From garnishes like floating oranges and cranberries to inventive flavor combinations, this classic crowd-pleaser provides a crowd-pleasing, effortless way to start any gathering,” says Jacques Torres, a culinary ambassador for Holland America Line. Rhinehart adds, “A well-crafted bowl of spiced bourbon punch or holiday sangria is a major crowd pleaser.”

Refreshing Whites, Reimagined

Approachable white wines are taking center stage in 2026 as hosts favor bottles that feel both refreshing and familiar. “Consumers are gravitating toward wines that feel bright, aromatic, and refreshing,” says Linda Trotta, the director of winemaking at Bread & Butter Wines. “Pinot Grigio continues to shine as a versatile, crowd-pleasing choice and classic California Chardonnay is enjoying a welcome revival. “There’s a broader movement toward comfort and nostalgia, and wine is following that path.”

Intimate Wine Nooks for Casual Gatherings

Home wine bars are trending as functional, social hubs with kitchen nooks outfitted with wine fridges, bar carts, and curated glassware that invite guests to pour and explore at their own pace. “People want hosting spaces that feel relaxed, inviting, and lived-in. A kitchen wine nook naturally draws guests to gather—it's stylish, social, and low-pressure, turning the heart of the home into an effortless entertaining hub where conversation and connection flow easily,” Petriella says.

Celebratory Sips Without Spirits

Hosts are embracing elevated mocktails made with spirit-free liquors, botanical spritzes, and tea-based cocktails finished with thoughtful garnishes. “These products mimic the complexity of traditional spirits, giving hosts the tools to create visually stunning drinks that feel celebratory and inclusive," DiSalvo-Follmer says. At-home entertaining is also embracing mindfulness and wellness with fully non-alcoholic setups—hosts are curating zero-proof bars with herbal tonics, infused waters, and garnished non-alcoholic cocktails, allowing guests to explore drinks at their own pace while keeping the gathering inclusive.

Outdoor Entertaining Trends

Micro-Resort Backyards

Patios are becoming intimate, resort-inspired escapes with low lounge seating, lantern lighting, Mediterranean textiles, portable fire features, and herb planters guests can snip from during dinner. “People want their outdoor areas to feel transportive, like their own Tuscan courtyard or Palm Beach terrace, extending the home into a welcoming, year-round entertaining space,” says Michelle Durpetti, the founder and creative director at Michelle Durpetti Events.

The Intimate Alfresco Experience

Homeowners are prioritizing wellness and tranquility in their backyards, adding flower and herb gardens, water features, firepits, cozy seating, and ambient lighting. “People are craving connection and simplicity, turning to hosting styles that feel intimate, rejuvenating, and thoughtfully designed,” says Ursula Carmona, a featured finder & interior + garden expert at HomeGoods. Carter adds, “They want to be outside and feel restorative in their own spaces.”

Popular Party Themes and Activities

Hosting Wine Exchange Parties

Wine swap parties are emerging as a fun, low-effort alternative to traditional tastings. Like a holiday cookie exchange, each guest brings a favorite bottle, a few are opened for everyone to sample, and guests trade bottles at the end of the night. “Friends can introduce one another to new styles and producers in a relaxed, casual environment, making wine discovery more personal and approachable,” Trotta says.

Hosts are increasingly serving wines from lesser-known regions where quality and value are in perfect harmony. “By choosing wines from unexpected regions, you’re sharing something personal and memorable,” says Robert Wessman, the founder of Maison Wessman. “It sparks conversation and introduces guests to places they’ll remember long after the party ends."

Playful, Participatory Parties

“People are craving levity and real connection,” Petriella says, whose clients are adding playful touches—like card decks, board games, and collaborative puzzles—that help guests relax and engage at gatherings. This includes interactive food, like cozy at-home cafés featuring signature lattes, homemade syrups, stoneware mugs, and soft jazz playlists.

“It’s comforting and feels like a treat,” says Biehl. Even dessert is becoming experiential. "Dessert displays are now star attractions, with visually striking towers of fruit or pastries inspired by the classic French croquembouche—fresh fruits and pastries elegantly arranged on a Styrofoam cone," Torres adds. These celebrations extend beyond plated sweets; interactive dessert stations, build-your-own sundae bars, and cookie-decorating setups engage guests while maintaining a playful and festive atmosphere.

High-End Pajama Parties

Luxe lounge nights turn intimate gatherings into stylish events. Hosts are elevating cozy nights in with curated touches like plush pillows, layered throws, ambient string lights, and cocktail carts or hot cocoa bars. Curated playlists and interactive activities—think mix-your-own mocktail stations or dessert decorating—add a playful, immersive element. “The trend of high-end pajamas and robes is hot right now,” Rhinehart says, "It’s all about creating a space that feels indulgent yet relaxed, where guests can lounge in style, snap Instagram-worthy moments, and enjoy a night of connection and comfort.”

Hosting with Intention

Setting the Tone from the Start

Invitations in 2026 are doing more than just collecting RSVPs—they’re becoming central hubs for event details, updates, and post-event sharing. “Guests and hosts want everything in one shared space,” says Olivia Pollock, an etiquette & hosting expert at Evite. Hosts are also embracing relaxed, playful wording and spontaneous timing, swapping rigid start times for phrases like “drop by when you can” and sending casual last-minute invites. “Last-minute doesn’t mean low-effort. It mirrors how people are living now—more flexible, spontaneous, and open to saying yes.”

The Return of Thoughtful Gifting

Intentional gifting is making a strong comeback, reflecting a broader desire for meaningful hospitality. “Gatherings are becoming more intimate, and arriving with a well-considered gift is trending as a way to show appreciation and enhance the hosting experience,” Carter says. Living party favors add a fresh twist, with potted plants and propagated cuttings replacing traditional trinkets. “It’s a thoughtful way to send guests home with a piece of you," adds Sandi Laing, a houseplant and gardening expert at Palmstreet.“Every time they see it growing, they’re reminded of the experience they shared in your home.”
