To recap the best of the year, Loudwire already reflected on the best prog rock albums of 2025 and the best prog metal albums of 2025, with the remarkable releases from Jethro Tull, Coheed and Cambria, Steven Wilson, Amorphis, Rivers of Nihil and Between the Buried and Me included in our nearly two dozen picks.

With those LPs properly praised – and with this year almost entirely in the rearview mirror – we’re now looking ahead to upcoming genre albums that we think will make 2026 just as amazing!

To be as accurate and fair as possible, we’ve chosen only collections that either have confirmed release dates or that are officially planned to arrive sometime next year. In other words – and as far as we can tell – there is only speculation so far about new projects from Devin Townsend, Haken, Advent Horizon and Marillion (so they aren’t appearing here, although our fingers are crossed that those rumors turn out to be true).

What we do know is that the next 12 months will bring fresh sets from both major artists and acts who still fly under the radar. Regardless, what they’ve got coming up is easily among our 11 most anticipated prog rock and prog metal albums of 2026!
