Bona, a sustainable flooring installation, maintenance, and restoration company, released its first-ever “Floorcast” for 2026. The report includes everything you ever wanted to know about the flooring trends of next year, and we’ve highlighted a few of our favorites.

Sustainable Wood Flooring

Will wood flooring still be ‘in’ for 2026? Bona says the answer is yes; it seems the popularity of wood flooring will never fade, though there are a few new styles to look forward to in the new year. A whopping 61% of Americans say wood flooring is important to them, whether they’re purchasing a new home or remodeling.

Eco-friendly flooring will be a primary focus for many homeowners. If an existing wood floor is already present—even if it isn’t in perfect condition—then most people prefer to restore it rather than replace it. The durability and longevity of hardwood floors are unmatched, making floor restoration a sustainable option for anyone.

Durable, Easy-Care Materials

Another reason wood floors remain in the lead in 2026 is that maintenance is the top concern for homeowners when choosing floor materials. A majority of homeowners say it’s essential that their floors are easy to care for. In fact, maintenance is more important to them than how their floor looks.

"While style and design matter, Americans prioritize easy cleaning and care when it comes to their floors," said Bona Flooring Expert Zack Clavin. "This highlights an interesting intersection of convenience, craft, and creativity. Homeowners want craftsmanship, customization, and care to converge and create spaces that are as personal as they are lasting."

Wood floors are notably easy to care for. Besides their durability and restorative potential, wood floors are generally resistant to spills, easy to clean, and don’t trap dust. A simple refinish will help your wood floors stay sparkling clean for years to come.

Wood Flooring Styles Are Shifting in 2026

While maintenance is top priority for many homeowners, that doesn’t mean that looks aren’t important. Mid-level wood tones still reign supreme, likely for their versatility and timeless style. However, Bona is seeing a shift towards dark tones, which is expected to continue gaining popularity in 2026. While 51% of homeowners prefer mid-level wood tones, 27% say they love rich-toned flooring.

The love for wood floors has been around forever, but another major wood flooring trend is resurfacing in 2026. Uniquely patterned wood flooring is returning to the spotlight in the new year. Herringbone and chevron patterns are popular choices homeowners use to add a custom look to their floors, says Bona. Inlays are also gaining popularity in 2026 as homeowners seek ways to make their wood floors stand out
