I've said it before and I'll say it again: LA Noire is the best videogame ever made. Its magnificent storytelling, faithful historical setting, and treatment of veteran life in post-WWII America puts it head and shoulders above any RPG I've ever played - and the soundtrack certainly helps, too. But, last year, Critical Hit Games' Nobody Wants to Die came along, almost giving LA Noire a run for its money with its snazzy art-deco cyberpunk setting and brain-teasing mysteries. While it still doesn't touch Rockstar's epic, it's an absolute must play.

You are James Karra, and you've walked into a massacre. One of New York's elite has been brutally murdered, set aflame then hung from a once-beautiful cherry blossom tree, now the scene of your first investigation. In many ways Nobody Wants to Die plays like Rockstar's iconic detective game: you scour the room looking for clues, piece said info together to form a conclusion, then confront the people involved. This is 2329, however, a world where no one dies - if you can afford immortality, that is. The tech has changed; no more scribbling in note books Cole Phelps-style. You've got a whole toolbox at your disposal.

The Reconstructor can effectively rewind time, piecing together what it believes the events preceding the poor fellow's incineration looked like. From here, you can use your X-Ray tool to see if there's anything in the floor or walls that could have contributed - if you remember Detective Mode from Rocksteady's Arkham games, it's a bit like that.

Using your various gadgets, you'll work your way through a variety of crime scenes, slowly but surely getting ever closer to your goal of catching the serial killer that's murdering the city's elite, while unravelling myriad conspiracies along the way.

If all of that sounds good to you, Nobody Wants to Die is currently part of Fanatical's Supreme Collection. You can buy games in allotments of two, three, or five, with the price decreasing the more games that you purchase. Buying two will cost you $12.50 / £12.50 each, three comes in at $12 / £12, and picking up five titles or more brings the price down to $11 / £11 per game.

Here's the list of games you can choose from, with personal recommendations being Nobody Wants to Die, of course, as well as the equally noir Shadows of a Doubt, bizarre cyberpunk shooter Sorry We're Closed, and Eastern European-inspired fantasy game Reka:

  • Bomb Rush Cyberfunk
  • Bulwark Evolution Deluxe Edition
  • Construction Simulator
  • Critter Cove
  • The End of the Sun
  • Infection Free Zone
  • My Friendly Neighborhood
  • Nobody Wants to Die
  • Shadows of Doubt
  • Steamworld Heist 2
  • Sorry We're Closed
  • Reka
  • Rival Stars: Horseracing
  • Robobeat
  • Tomb Raider IV - VI Remastered
  • Victory Heat Rally
  • Worshippers of Cthulhu

This Fanatical Supreme Collection bundle is only available until Sunday, June 29, 2025. We don't know when, or if, the games in this bundle will be brought down in price like this again, so don't wait too long to get them.

If you're looking for some more new adventures but don't want to break the bank, we have a list of all the best free Steam games, as well as a rundown of the best free PC games.
