In the run up to Diablo 4's new expansion, you can get this Nordic-inspired ARPG for free

Sure, there were loads of cool new trailers at The Game Awards. Divinity. Wizard's of the Coast's Warlock. Fate of the Old Republic. The list goes on, and on, and on. But I'm a Diablo 4 person at heart, and my personal highlight was, of course, the Lord of Hatred trailer (even if Mephisto calling out influencers ahead of the reveal was… a choice). With the new Paladin class out now and another on the way, it's going to be one of my 2026 highlights, and has absolutely put me in the demon-slaying mood. If you're also intent on smacking some monsters around, Jotunnslayer: Hordes of Hel is perfect for keeping you busy, and it's currently free on the Epic Games Store.

Throughout the festive period, you'll be able to grab a free Epic game every day, and first up is Jotunnslayer: Hordes of Hel. If you're unfamiliar with Game Farm's Norse-themed ARPG, it tasks you with fending off Viking deities and carving your way through the eponymous hordes of Hel. Part roguelike game, part Vampire Survivors, and part, Diablo, you'll unlock perks as you go, helping you maximize your killing potential.

Its latest update, The Fall of Alfheim, adds the Light Elves' once-beautiful home, which is now overrun with arachnids. Great, I really hate spiders. There are new level modifiers inspired by creeping corruption, as well as a new boss, the Arachnid Jotunn, a giant eight-legged horror whose kit focuses on poison damage, webs, and spider summons.

In an attempt to stem the tide of evil, new god The Earthmother enters the fray, letting you harness nature itself in an attempt to overpower the spreading evil. Then, there's the new Archmage class, the last remaining elven magister who relies on powerful magic. With four subclasses (Pyromancer, Stormbringer, Cryomancer, and Venomancer), you'll be able to control the elements themselves to rain terror on your foes, and as someone who loves poison builds, Venomancer looks amazing.

Jotunnslayer: Hordes of Hel is free right now on the Epic Games Store, but it won't be for long. You have just 24 hours to pick it up, as the deal ends tomorrow, December 19 at 8am PST / 11am EST / 4pm BST / 5pm CEST. You can grab it here.

Rated 85% on Steam, Jotunnslayer is absolutely worth grabbing. But keep your eye on Epic over the next few days, though, as leaks claim that Red Dead Redemption 2 may be Epic's big finisher, which sounds pretty damn good to me.
