Creating a beautiful holiday wreath from scratch is easier than you might think, and you can do it for under $10. The result is a full, fluffy wreath that looks just like a ring of neutral florals. The base even provides space for additional decoration, such as metallic paint, winter flowers, greenery, and berries.

Here's a breakdown of how to make this affordable holiday hack just in time for the season.

Coffee Filter Wreath

You’ll need to start by picking a wreath base to hold your coffee filters. One option is to use wire—you can shape it yourself or use a premade wire wreath. A typical wire wreath frame will be under $5 at most craft stores.

A typical coffee filter wreath will use at least one pack of filters. Take a single filter at a time and scrunch it together from the center, so that it looks like a flower with ruffled edges. Tuck the end of your filter into the wire wreath base so the ruffled ends point out. You can use more wire, glue, or tape to adhere each filter to your wreath.

The result should be significant and fluffy, with none of the wreath base showing.

Decorating and Displaying Your Coffee Filter Wreath

You can hang your wreath up as-is once you’re done arranging your coffee filters, or you can decorate it for a more unique look. Add dried citrus slices and popcorn strings for a vintage look, or tuck faux and dried flowers between the coffee filters for depth.

Brushing the ruffled ends of each coffee filter with metallic paint can give it an Art Deco look that looks positively chic for the holidays. While white or beige coffee filters make for a stunning neutral wreath, you can easily dye them different colors by brushing them with watercolor paints or diluted food dye, then letting them dry.

Before Putting Your Wreath Up

Since coffee filters are flammable, avoid using string lights on your coffee filter wreath. This DIY wreath is best suited for indoors; place it somewhere it won’t get wet.

Keep it out of sunlight if possible, as the paper will yellow over time. Even if you have to replace your coffee filter wreath every few years, this entertaining craft makes it all worth it.
