The first Fortnite Creative map to hit a million peak players is, naturally, a spinoff of Roblox's brainrot hit

The officially licensed Fortnite Creative spinoff of Steal a Brainrot has been enjoying some huge surges in popularity recently, and it just achieved its biggest spike to date. Titled Steal the Brainrot, this Fortnite clone of the hit Roblox game has become the first experience on Epic Games' platform to surpass a million concurrent players. However, while that will no doubt put big smiles on the faces of Epic's higher-ups and prove its user-generated content push is capable of big things, Steal the Brainrot's new record pales in comparison to its Roblox counterpart's.

From its live events, to its traditional battle royale game mode, to spinoffs like Zero Build, Epic-created experiences continue to be the most-played on Fortnite. However, if there's one Fortnite Creative experience that could break out and reach similar heights, it's Steal the Brainrot. Based on the viral Roblox fever dream that lets you become a meme mogul as you expand your collection of valuable characters such as Tung Tung Tung Sahur, Swag Soda, and Blueberrinni Octopusini (this is too much psychic damage for a Monday morning…), it is one of the most-played experiences on the planet right now. Player counts almost never drop below six figures, and hordes of fans clamor to find new, lucrative Steal a Brainrot codes each week.

It's no surprise, then, that the top experience on Fortnite Creative is an officially licensed spinoff of one of the best Roblox games ever. Over the weekend, though, Steal the Brainrot reached a massive milestone. According to player count tracking stats on Fortnite.gg, it achieved a concurrent peak of 1,019,725; the first time a Fortnite Creative experience has hit seven figures. For comparison, the next highest peak for a community-made Creative map is for Super Red vs Blue, a large-scale PvP mode, which has seen 235,000 people playing at once.

While that's an impressive feat and shows that Fortnite is becoming a more prominent force in the UGC space, it's absolutely worth noting the gulf between Steal the Brainrot's impressive new feat and the one achieved by the original on Roblox. According to Steal a Brainrot's creator, it reached a peak of over 25 million players back in October.

Back to the Fortnite version, though, and it's thought the huge success of the experience has generated up to $13.8 million to date. That's according to estimates on Fortnite.gg, shared by Seth Dirks, the CEO of a company specializing in animated cutscenes using Unreal Editor for Fortnite. While it's the top end of a very broad possible earnings range (Fortnite.gg also shows it being as low as $3.7 million) it's still an indication of just how lucrative these top community experiences can be for their creators.

Epic's CEO Time Sweeney also replied to Dirks' post, highlighting that $13.8 million "exceeds the development budget of our first Gears of War game" - how the times are changing, eh?

While there's still some way to go before Fortnite Creative can get close to the kind of crowds Roblox's UGC draws in, it's still a big moment for Epic, and judging by Sweeney's reposting and interactions with those highlighting Steal the Brainrot's new record, one the company is extremely happy about.
