Clair Obscur Expedition 33 just got a free update with "new adventures," a Steam Deck upgrade, and two much-wanted features

A free Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 update has just arrived that expands the map with a new adventure, alongside a wealth of other extra features and treats. Hot off a massive night for Sandfall Interactive at The Game Awards, where the developer broke records with a total of nine wins including the overall Game of the Year gong, it surprised us with new Expedition 33 DLC Verso's Drafts. The pack includes a range of bonus additions I'm happy about, such as photo mode and loadouts to quickly swap between builds, and also upgrades the Steam Deck rating.

After thanking players for their support during his speech for the GOTY prize, creative director Guillaume Broche revealed the update. "I think that actions are worth more than words, so if you remember, we promised some content a few months ago. I'm very happy to say it's releasing now. You can just go home and play it, it's free. New weapons, new quests, new bosses, just the cool stuff." True to his word, you'll find the new Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 update waiting for you the next time you boot it up. Whether you're yet to play one of this generation's best RPGs or are just going back for the new stuff, there's a lot to look forward to.

At the top of the list is Verso's Drafts, which whisks your party away to "a brand-new location with new enemy encounters and surprises to discover." It's found next to Lumière on the world map, although you'll need to be in act three and be able to travel underwater in order to get there. Over at the Endless Tower, you'll find new battles against "even more challenging" variants of several bosses from the main game. You'll also be able to grab some fresh outfits for all members of the group.

There are lots of nice quality-of-life upgrades as well. Lumina Sets allow you to store up to 50 loadouts for your characters, letting you quickly swap your tactics out at a moment's notice. There are also Picto and Lumina filters to more easily find the ones you want. Photo Mode is the perfect way to show off your favorite scenes in style, with a wide range of options allowing you to tweak characters and filters to your liking. You're now able to pause mid-battle and can choose to abandon fights if you wish.

Then there's the ability to change the size of in-game HUD elements, FSR4 support, controller input remapping, and a range of new localizations. The Expedition 33 Steam Deck rating has been upgraded to 'verified,' alongside a similar certification for the ROG Xbox Ally. Last but not least, the 'Old Key' item that was previously only accessible during the prologue (and thus missable) will now reappear in the final area, allowing you to complete your journal without needing to start a fresh playthrough if you wish.

The Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Thank You update including Verso's Drafts is available now for all players. The game is 20% off through Thursday December 18, so expect to pay $39.99 / £33.59. At this point, I probably don't need to tell you that it's worth your time, but I'll do so anyway.
