If there's anything that defines Christmas 2025, it's stepping back in time with nostalgic gifts and decor. Whether you're celebrating a Little Women winter, a Ralph Lauren Christmas, or anything in between, and star-shaped decorations fit right into this cozy aesthetic. These felt stars (and star motifs in general) have been a reoccurring trend this year, and all it takes to make them is a few simple items. Learn how to craft this vintage-inspired decor piece and all the creative ways you can use it this holiday season—from garland to gift toppers.

How to Make Felt Stars

This cute craft only requires a few materials and an hour of crafting with your friends or family. All you need is felt, stuffing, string, and scissors. Cut two star shapes out of the felt (feel free to use a stencil), sew them together with string (leaving a small hole to fill the shape with stuffing), and fill it up with polymer before closing the star up.

If you want to spice things up, decorate the stars with thread and beads before fastening them together. There is no shortage of people online adding beads onto their felt decorations, sharing countless creative tutorials and inspiration. You can also sew, or simply draw, letters and designs onto the stars. People have taken inspiration from snowflakes, Christmas cookies, and gingerbread men. All it takes is a little creativity to make the stars your own.

Different Ways to Decorate with Felt Stars

These simple shapes are an easy addition to decor anywhere in your house. Get creative with where you place them, and they might just be the final touch you need to round out your Little Women Christmas.

To create a whimsical star garland, leave a little extra yarn on the end of each star and tie them to a long piece of yarn or simply thread a piece of yarn through multiple stars. You can string the garland up on its own, or add it to greenery already draped across your mantle. Try hanging a string of stars from the ceiling or drape them across the walls. Anywhere there's wall space, there's room for a garland.

Add a bit of personality to presents by using these little cushions as gift toppers. Attach one or two of them to the top of wrapped gifts with some extra string and a name tag, or creatively add their name to the star itself. Not only does it add character to the original gift, but it's an additional one as well—maybe you'll see it on their tree next year!
