What is the Minecraft spear crafting recipe? Each new Minecraft drop comes with exciting new content, but there's perhaps nothing more thrilling - and rare - than a new weapon. That's what we got with Minecraft 1.21.11, Mounts of Mayhem, when the spear was added to vanilla Minecraft.

This Minecraft weapon is unique in that it has a charged attack alongside its standard jab. It does half the damage of an axe, with multiplyers for its charged attack still not quite bringing it up to the same damage level. This weapon's beauty, though, comes from the ability to use it from a mount, keeping you somewhat safe from danger in the sandbox game.

The Minecraft spear recipe is as simple as you'd think, following the same pattern as other weapons. Place two sticks in the bottom left and center tiles of the crafting interface, and finish with your mineral of choice in the top right, for example, diamond or iron.

You can craft a spear with anything from wood upwards, just like the other Minecraft weapons, so you can start fighting with one from day one in your new world. However, we don't recommend it as a starter weapon - an axe or sword are still far superior until you're up and running on a mount.

How to use the Minecraft spear

The most important aspect of the Minecraft spear is that it can be used while riding a mount, such as a horse, camel, or even Nautilus. This means you can stay mounted while attacking enemies, which is especially helpful at night.

The Nautilus Minecraft mob arrived in the vanilla game alongside the spear, and this is an underground mob that can be ridden across the ocean. This is an especially great time to equip a spear, as it'll provide some defence against Drowned - though it won't help against those deadly Trident wielders.

You can also use the spear while flying through the air with your Elytra wings. So, as long as you've already made it to The End and are well-trained in controlling your movements without a weapon to think about, it can be super fun to drop onto unsuspecting mobs from up high.

While zombies have been able to pick up weapons before now, and skeletons of course wield bows, spears come with the terrifying chance of spawning in in the hands of a range of mobs. The mobs that can generate with a spear are:

• Piglins - Golden spear
• Zombified piglins - Golden spear
