How to Decorate Your Kitchen Cabinets with Mini Wreaths

Every door needs a wreath this holiday season, and not just your entryway. Get in the holiday spirit with greenery that will give your kitchen a little holiday cheer: cabinet wreaths. 

Where to Get Miniature Wreaths

These teeny-tiny wreaths are elf-sized—just right for hanging on your kitchen cabinets. You can easily DIY your own mini wreaths by cutting up a winter garland and tying it into shape, or gathering winter branches and leaves. Plenty of retailers also carry miniature wreaths designed to adorn the interior of your home. You can accessorize them by adding bows, miniature ornaments, or faux snow.

Whether you choose faux or fresh wreaths is up to you; just be sure to keep these cabinet wreaths hung up a safe distance away from your stovetop, so that they don’t pose a fire hazard. 

What to Keep in Mind

Cabinet wreaths are the perfect way to bring a little holiday cheer to your kitchen. But less is more.

Decorate thoughtfully. If you have lots of cabinets in your kitchen, there’s no need to hang a wreath on every one of them. Avoid overcrowding your kitchen with decorations by spacing out each wreath; leave a cabinet or two in between.

Avoid bottom cabinets. You should also plan on hanging your cabinet wreaths on your top cabinets exclusively. Since we normally see wreaths hung up high on doorways, gates, and arches, a wreath that’s close to the ground looks awkward and draws your eye straight to the floor. Instead, keep them up high to create a natural focal point in your kitchen.

How to Hang Cabinet Wreaths

Hanging your cabinet wreaths isn’t difficult, and there are several tricks you can try. The first is to use a ribbon to secure your wreath. Hang an adhesive hook upside-down on the back of your cabinet door, and tie a ribbon to the hook (you can also glue the ribbon to the hook if you’re worried it will come loose). Run the ribbon up the cabinet door and over the other side, then tie it to your wreath so that it hangs in the center of your cabinet. 

Another option is to use wreath hooks. These thin hooks have one end hanging over the tops of your cabinet doors, while the other supports your miniature wreath. Choose a color that blends with your cabinet finish to make your wreath look even more seamless. The main benefit of this method is that it requires absolutely no installation or adhesives, which makes it extra friendly for those who have delicate cabinetry.

You can also place an adhesive hook a small distance above the center of your cabinet, and then hang your mini wreath directly on top of it. While it can sometimes be challenging to find a hook that can support the weight of a full-sized wreath, miniature wreaths are very light, so you’ll likely have more luck with this method.

Get Creative with Bows

Many creative holiday decorators have also made their cabinets look like Christmas presents, which is another simple way you can secure your wreath to your cupboard door. Wrap a long piece of ribbon around the front of your cabinet horizontally (you can secure it in the back by tying it together or wrapping the ends together with painter’s tape). Do the same with another piece of ribbon vertically, as you would when wrapping a gift. Attach your wreath to the center of your cabinet, where the two ribbons overlap.
