The Vintage-Inspired Holiday Decor Trend Designers Love Right Now

Nostalgia is having a major moment in interior design, and it feels especially fitting during the cozy holiday season. As the weather cools and homes begin to glow with festive lights, many decorators are reaching for elements that evoke warmth, memory, and tradition. Vintage ceramic Christmas trees, classic color palettes, and timeless retro touches have all returned in full force, proving once again that “what’s old is new again.”

One of the latest nostalgic trends gaining momentum this year is quilted holiday decor. Quilts have been making a steady comeback in interior styling over the past few years, but now they’re finding a new place in seasonal decorating as well. From hand-stitched throws displayed on the sofa to quilt-inspired stockings, tree skirts, pillows, and even patchwork ornaments, this homespun look adds a comforting, personal feel to holiday spaces.

Sierra Troisky is the founder and principal designer of Sierra Troisky Interiors, an Indianapolis-based interior design firm.

Why Quilted Motifs Are Trending Right Now

Designers say the appeal of quilted decor goes beyond aesthetics—it invites a sense of craft, heritage, and storytelling into the home, making it the perfect trend for a season centred around togetherness.

“They bring a cozy, traditional, and sentimental vibe to holiday season decor (and traditional decorating is so in this year),” says Sierra Troisky, founder and principal designer of Sierra Triosky Interiors. “As quilted items have historically been more handmade, these items are often family heirlooms or become a family tradition that people can hand down to their kids and their children’s children.”

The beauty of this trend is that, although quilts were traditionally handmade, you can now easily find charming quilted decor in stores and online, making it simple to embrace this nostalgic holiday look without being an experienced quilter.

How to Embrace Quilted Holiday Decor

Quilts may be traditionally associated with bedroom styling, but today’s designers are finding creative ways to weave this decor throughout the entire home. Beyond the classic bedspread, quilted Christmas tree skirts, stockings, throw pillows, table runners, placemats, and even ornaments can add dimension, texture, and a handcrafted feel.

“Quilted elements can be incorporated into your holiday decor in the form of a Christmas tree skirt or Advent wall hanging, a special Hanukkah throw blanket, or a Kwanzaa throw pillow,” says Troisky.

Start Small

If you’re curious about the trend but not ready to commit to an entire patchwork display, start small. A single festive quilt draped over the back of a sofa or folded across a bench can infuse your space with a subtle hint of nostalgia without overwhelming your existing decor. Over time, you can layer additional quilted pieces that reflect your style, color palette, and holiday traditions.

However you choose to embrace it—through heirloom textiles passed down through generations or modern interpretations found in stores and online—quilted decor adds a cozy, personal touch that celebrates craftsmanship, history, and the heart of the season.
