You've got just one day to snag an iconic, brilliant murder mystery detective game for basically $1

It's hard to pass up a great murder mystery, and Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc is absolutely chock-full of them. They don't call it the 'Killing School Life' for nothing, after all. There's a good chance you've heard of this legendary series, which started life on the PSP but has since been brought to PC, but if you've never tried it - or fancy revisiting one of the best visual novels around - now's the ideal opportunity. The first entry is currently available for just over $1 on Steam, with the sequel only slightly more, but you'll need to be quick to grab this deal while it lasts.

Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc is often held up as a pillar of the murder mystery scene, and it's certainly among the best detective games I've ever played. It's surreal, silly, and sinister all in one brightly-colored anime package, and filled with a cast of characters that you'll be hard-pressed to forget. Imprisoned inside the seemingly abandoned Hope's Peak Academy, you and your classmates are forced to play a deadly game by a conniving, murderous bear called Monokuma. Whoever is able to kill one of their classmates and get away with it will be granted freedom.

Naturally, you and your companions aren't immediately eager to off one another, but Monokuma quickly ups the stakes to force individuals into trying to take action. While your early days will be spent making friends and learning about your fellow inmates, you're quickly thrown into an investigation when the first murder takes place. From there, each death kicks off a class trial, forcing you to gather evidence, collect testimonies, and gradually piece together the truth alongside the rest of the class, all while knowing one of them is behind it.

Danganronpa's Steam reviews sit at the elusive 'overwhelmingly positive,' with 95% of players giving it the thumbs up, and with good reason. The way it carefully weaves its network of clues together, combined with the banter between its eccentric cast, means you're constantly being kept on your toes with every twist and turn. Add in the incredible soundtrack from Masafumi Takada and you'll be bopping your way through even its most tragic moments.

Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc - A class trial.

It's certainly a little freaky at times, perhaps too much for some; if you've played 2025's The Hundred Line, which also comes from Danganronpa creator Kazutaka Kodaka, you'll have a rough idea of what to expect. But that's all part of the package. This sale also extends to the sequel, which is an excellent game in its own right, though I'd recommend playing them in order. It's also seen the active player count for this 15-year-old game (that's been on Steam for nearly a decade) skyrocket up to a peak of nearly 8,000 already. If you want to join them, it won't cost much.

Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc is 94% off on Steam, so you'll pay just $1.19 / £0.89. Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair is 80% off on Steam at $3.99 / £2.99, while a bundle containing both is 87% off, meaning it's $4.66 / £3.49 for the pair. The deals end on Monday December 1 at 7am PT / 10am ET / 3pm GMT / 4pm CET. Head here while the savings last to uncover the tale of Hope's Peak Academy for yourself.
