Warhammer 40k Space Marine 2's new Techmarine class can turn the environment to their advantage

Saber Interactive has an early holiday treat for us, courtesy of a first proper look at the Warhammer 40k Space Marine 2 Techmarine. The new class is scheduled to arrive early in 2026, further bolstering the roster of one of the best Warhammer 40k games on the market. As the highly trained technicians of the Space Marines, they're an ideal option if you like to supplement your own battle proficiency with tools and support weapons. They also sit at the perfect intersection of all my years spent playing Engineer in TF2 and my affinity for the Adeptus Mechanicus.

"We're heading towards the end of the year, which means we're getting closer to the addition of the Techmarine," the Space Marine 2 developer writes in its new community blog. We're coming hot off the heels of Patch 11 and the Reclamation update, which is finally giving Chaos a bit more respect, but there's already a lot planned for 2026. Right at the top of next year, Patch 12 will introduce another PvE mission, an expansion to the battle-barge, new stratagems, and two paid Champion Packs, but it's the new class I'm most excited about.

With the newcomer breaching the horizon, Saber says, "It's time for us to start sharing a bit of what we've been cooking for this new class." First up is the Techmarine's iconic power weapon, the Omnissian Axe. This is an imposing halberd design with a notched blade on one side and a vice on the other, giving it both heft and function. Saber promises all the usual complements, too: unique animations, finishers, and progression.

Alongside this, the Techmarine has a Servo-Gun ability that you can activate to let it automatically engage nearby enemies. Expanding your defensive options further, they can restore any Tarantula Sentry Guns that you encounter in the world. Saber notes that these will spawn in existing PvE levels, so you should have plenty to work with.

"Lastly, you might wonder which Traitor Legion the Chaos Techmarine will be associated with in PvP," the developer teases. "We cannot spoil too much now, but we'll make sure to give you more details in the upcoming weeks." Send your best guesses on a postcard. As with most updates, Saber says we can expect a Patch 12 PTS ahead of the full thing, so hopefully it won't be long before we're taking the Techmarine out for a test spin.
