With a 94% positive rating from over 14,000 reviews, Necesse's early access period has been one of pure triumph. The top-down, survival crafting game has spent years going from strength to strength, and deservedly so. If you love the colony management of Rimworld, the vibes of Stardew Valley, and the sandbox RPG elements of Terraria, Necesse has it all. Whether you're a new player or a veteran, it's one to watch, especially with the 1.0 launch finally around the corner.

Your time in Necesse is split between three activities: building, questing, and conquering. Set on the backdrop of an infinitely procedurally generated world, you can spend your days doing whatever your heart desires. Head into the mines for treasures and resources, build up a township, or simply wander the land discovering secrets. If you're a fan of the freedom Minecraft provides, this sandbox game is perfect for you.

It's about to get even bigger, too, as the Steam 1.0 launch is now set for later this year. To start, the entire world of Necesse is going to be turned into an infinitely seamless one, where biomes will transition into each other smoothly without any loading screens. That might not sound huge, but just think about how much more immersive the entire experience is going to be if you can see the world actively shift around you.

All of your settlers are also getting an overhaul, with brand new personality traits that alter their behavior and general interactions, bringing a new layer of life to what you create. The settlers can even talk to each other, whether that be about love or burgers – I know which one's more important.

You'll also get a final version of the game's Incursion system. Right now, Incursions are a post-endgame event that opens up temporary maps for you to explore. With 1.0, however, a new incursion perk tree is being added to customize how your endgame works, with new maps to play with.

Necesse 1.0 is currently set for Thursday October 9 on Steam, with a new sale knocking the game down by 35% until Wednesday June 11, so expect to pay $9.74 / £8.44 until then. Just head right here.

With Necesse 1.0 incoming, we've also got all the best indie games and best co-op games to keep you busy in the meantime.
