8 Design Trends the BHG Editors Couldn't Get Enough of in 2025

As another year comes to a close, we've been reflecting on all of the design trends that have blossomed in 2025. More than ever, people have been finding special ways to make their space feel uniquely their own. Whether that means using antiques and thrifted finds for a nostalgic feel, or using paint, tile, and wallpaper to adorn surfaces that evoke joy rather than increase resale value, designing to make you happy is the overall trend of the year—and we're here for it.

Through our daily reporting and research, BHG editors have identified a few 2025 trends that stood out to us more than the rest. Read on to discover our top picks and be inspired for your next year of renovations, upgrades, and DIYs.

1. Stripes

"I know stripes were big last year, but the trend has only grown in my world (and house!). Big, small, hand-drawn, mismatched—the funkier the better! I recently used painter's tape and a laser level to coat my entire office in dusty pink and cream stripes; it was much cheaper than wallpaper, and once I got the hang of it, not too much of a headache. If you don't want to dive into this trend fully, a striped pillow or lampshade is a great way to try it out."

2. Curves

"Arches, rounded furniture, even soft curved edges on kitchen countertops have replaced right angles. I love the softness that this gentle arching shape brings to a room."

3. Cabinetry Vent Holes

"I've loved seeing cabinets with little cutout patterns in them pop up in kitchens and mudrooms, especially. The look adds old-world character and charm, especially in colorful cabinetry."

— Monika Biegler Eyers, Executive Editor

4. ’90s Nostalgia

"Some of my favorite ‘90s style trends have come full circle this year. Patterned wallpaper borders, charming gingham prints, and gorgeous oak cabinetry are all making a modern comeback. As long as you’re mindful about the elements you select, it’s totally possible to embrace the nostalgic design trends without your space appearing outdated."

5. Tile Patterns and Mosaics

"I love anything that makes a space feel a little special, fun, and elevated, and arranging colorful tile (beyond just a checkerboard pattern) in different patterns does all that! It's fun to see how people can take basic, colorful tiles and arrange them to create such interesting patterns—stripes, plaids, gingham, and more geometric patterns. They become a focal point of a space. "

6. Dopamine Decor

"I love homes with a lot of personality, and lots of colors in a space will take care of that. I'm a big collector of stuff that I find pretty, so it's been fun to see designs that celebrate the unique items people find. Putting your entire personality into your home, not just living in it like you're going to sell it eventually, is really beautiful. Even if you use funky wallpaper and fill every nook and cranny with your random tchotchkes."

7. Color Drenching

"Having survived the era of gray, I'm here for rooms that commit to color in a big way—think monochromatic hues on the walls, trimwork, and ceiling. Plus, color drenching creates a cocoon-like effect that's so cozy. This trend can happily stick around."

8. Unvarnished Brass

"A big part of the English cottage style is creating 'collected' spaces where nothing is too perfect. Enter unvarnished brass, the warm, ever-evolving metal ideal for high-touch spots like cabinet pulls, faucet handles, and light switch covers. The patina will keep aging over time, just like the rest of your perfectly vintage look."
