Spiritfarer dev is back with gorgeous new 2D action-adventure game At Fate's End

There are some games that just make you cry. The ending of Plague Tale: Requiem, for example, or the climax of Act 1 in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 – if a videogame can make you cry, it's doing something right. As a narrative-driven RPG fan, the list of sob-worthy games in my Steam library is pretty extensive, but Spiritfarer is up there with the best of them, shattering hearts and ruining days everywhere. Now the Thunder Lotus team is back with At Fate's End, an equally emotionally charged action-adventure game where the enemies are your siblings, and your actions can either reunite a broken family, or deepen the rifts even further.

You are Shan, the young heiress of the Hemlock Clan. Wielding the powerful God Sword Aesus, you'll have to battle your siblings in order to claim your spot as the family's new figurehead. All of that sounds like the usual videogame fare so far, but where action-adventure games largely focus on crunchy hack and slash combat, At Fate's End is weaving some narrative flavor into every duel.

In the trailer above, we see a fight sequence between Shan and her elder sister Camilla, who we initially see giving her a hug. As the battle ensues there's a quick cutscene, where you're offered three different dialog options that directly reflect the pair's relationship. You'll have to get to know your siblings and, if you want to repair those bonds, approach every combat sequence with caution – one wrong word could sever those relationships forever.

The game's skill tree also has a narrative focus, with your familiar connections giving you access to different abilities, presumably dependent upon your relationships with each member. You'll need to choose your path wisely so that you can tailor your build to fit your individual playstyle.

As you've likely expected, At Fate's End has various, hard-hitting endings, with the Hemlock Clan's future resting in your hands. Every duel is a flash point, every decision shapes the game – relationships are central to the plot, even if, on the outside, the focus is the action.

Thunder Lotus has confirmed that At Fate's End will drop sometime in 2026, coming to Steam and consoles, as well as PC Game Pass. You can wishlist it right here.
