We're finally seeing more of Hasbro's forgotten space game, and I'm hoping it's a worthy Mass Effect challenger

Remember Exodus? I'll be perfectly honest with you, I forgot it existed or assumed it had been canceled. Alas, that is not the case, and developer Hasbro has revealed that players will hear more of Matthew McConaughey's dulcet tones at The Game Awards next month. It's not nominated for the only award it's eligible for (most anticipated game), but it'll be good to see how development is progressing after prolonged radio silence. We can only assume the developers were busy traversing the stars and bending the space-time continuum to stay on track through their latest sprint.

While many of us may have forgotten its existence, the anticipated space game is still on track, according to Hasbro. The information was revealed by Hasbro's vice president of investor relations, Fred Wightman, on a recent earnings call. We're a long way from knowing whether or not this will make waves on our list of the best RPGs, but it's good to know that work on the game is still progressing and that we'll hear more soon.

"The Game Awards this December will showcase some new announcements from Hasbro, including updates on our upcoming sci-fi RPG Exodus, further cementing our commitment to innovative digital play experiences," he says during the call.

This is mostly meaningless corpo-babble to please investors, but I'm looking forward to seeing more from the game. After an initial flurry of marketing activity, including weekly lore drops and a coveted slot in Amazon Prime's animated series, Secret Level, everything went quiet on the Hasbro front.

As someone who has been looking for the next Mass Effect game since, well, Mass Effect 3, Exodus is one of the more promising contenders to the spacefaring RPG's throne. While Wightman doesn't give anything away regarding a potential release date, one person in the Q&A section asks about the game's potential costs, saying that "it sounds like we're about a year from Exodus being released."

While nobody on the Hasbro side confirms this assumption, they don't deny it either. Personally I can't see it launching any time soon, even with GTA 6's latest delay freeing up prime release windows next spring, but perhaps Exodus is targeting a holiday release in 2026. Whenever it arrives, I'm curious to learn more about this enigmatic RPG.
