Because baking soda is alkaline, it can help to boost the efficacy of laundry detergent, as well as of chlorine bleach, allowing you to use less of these products and still achieve the same level of clean. When this happens, rewash the stained load with 1 cup baking soda, using the highest water temperature the stained items can tolerate.
