World of Warcraft quietly removes fan favorite event from new patch roadmap, so forget about turbo-levelling your alts for now

The World of Warcraft leveling experience is pretty quick nowadays, with plenty of methods out there getting you up to the prized 80 cap lickety-split. Once you've run through it a few times on different alts, though, it becomes a labor of love more than anything. Legion Remix, similarly to Old School Runescape's Leagues, turbocharges your XP gains, albeit on a temporary character that exists solely on separate servers. Earlier this year, we were treated to two events, Turbulent Timeways and Winds of Mysterious Fortune, that provided sizable XP boosts alongside other timed QoL goodies. On Blizzard's original roadmap for WoW 11.2.7, a return for both was on the cards. In its latest iteration, however, Winds has been swept away.

Winds of Mysterious Fortune quickly became a fan favorite event when it ran for the first time back in July. Not only does it provide a flat 20% XP boost for characters above level ten, but it also provides a massive reputation boost to both Dragonflight and The War Within expansion factions. The real spice, though, comes in the form of the various potions that buff everything from movement speed to health, and can provide damage affixes to your attacks. Not only is it the perfect opportunity to max out those alts in the MMO, especially when stacking Turbulent Timeways' buffs, but it's also the best time to turn in those Market Researches and other faction consumables you've been stockpiling.

World of Warcraft Winds of Mysterious Fortune removed 11.2.7: roadmap comparison

Over the weekend, Blizzard shared an updated roadmap for the upcoming Patch 11.2.7, which introduces housing for those who preordered Midnight, a revamped onboarding and returning player experience, and much more. But, when comparing the graphic with the first version shared early last week, there is one clear omission: Winds.

Blizzard hasn't disclosed why the event has been whipped away, so anything hereafter is complete speculation. With Legion Remix ongoing, the studio perhaps wanted to avoid speeding things up too much, though it could surely just… not enable it on Remix realms. There's also the possibility that a major bug was found that couldn't be rectified in time, or, simply, that it never intended to run Winds in the first place and the original graphic was put out in error.

PCGamesN has reached out to Blizzard, and will report back if we find out why exactly Winds has vanished.

Regardless of the reason, this just means you'll have to hold out a little longer if you've been biding your time for a big alt levelling spree, or the optimal time to push for faction rep. The fact that Winds has resurfaced indicates that we should be in for a rerun at some point; hopefully sooner rather than later.
