The Lies of P Overture release date is here, and you can play it today. The puppet soulslike, which earned itself plenty of acclaim as one of the most worthy challengers to the Fromsoftware catalog of Elden Ring, Dark Souls, et al, is taking us back to the fall of Krat for a prequel expansion. We've been wondering exactly when it would arrive, and now developers Neowiz and Round8 Studio have given us quite the treat by launching it live on stage during the Summer Game Fest showcase.

I very recently completed Lies of P for the first time and came away itching for more. It's one of the best soulslikes I've played in years, fusing some of the combat feel of Bloodborne and Sekiro with a distinctive parry system and ideas that feel bold and distinct. Its haunting, Belle Époque architecture woven into the puppetry makes for a pitch-perfect setting, and the incredibly inventive lineup of Lies of P weapons would have beckoned me back for a second playthrough had the promised DLC not been so close.

Game director Choi Ji-won says that Overture adds a lot of aspects that didn't make it into the base game, and that he now considers it a "complete version" of the team's vision. Taking an early look, Niall recently delivered a resoundingly positive Lies of P Overture preview, stating that, right from the start, the prequel lives up to the standards of weapon creativity and excellent level design set by the base game.

Niall also notes that the expansion certainly "expects you to know what you're doing from the jump," but Neowiz is introducing two additional difficulty settings if you're worried that you might not be up to the challenge. If you'd rather crank things up to be even harder, you're also in luck; Battle Memories are a way to tackle previously defeated bosses at higher-tier difficulties, while Death March puts you in a gauntlet against multiple opponents in succession.

Lies of P Overture is out now on Steam and the Xbox app, priced at $29.99. You'll find it right here if you're ready to take to the streets of Krat once more.

If you need to finish off your original run before you dive in, we've got a rundown of all the Lies of P bosses in order and explained how to respec in Lies of P in case you fancy changing your build for your new adventure.
