Code Vein came out back in 2019 and immediately stood apart from other soulslike games for its anime-inspired visual style and more straightforward storytelling. Though it has the demanding combat and interconnected world design of games like Elden Ring, Sekiro, Dark Souls, and Sekiro, creator Bandai Namco filtered these concepts through the bold cartoon style of a horror anime, attracting a sizable audience in the process. Seven years on, the studio's just announced that it's at work on a follow-up to the first project, with Code Vein 2 set to expand on its predecessor's concepts.
The first soulslike game took place in a post-apocalyptic world overrun by monsters and vampire-like humans, and Code Vein 2 looks to follow in its bloody footsteps through a continuation of its story following a cast of undead anti-heroes and their homicidal enemies.
Its debut trailer introduces the sequel in dramatic fashion, hinting at the plot's continuation and possibly even time travel elements before shifting to footage of its combat. As in the first game, the fighting looks splashy and fast-paced, though the follow-up appears to provide a host of new or reconfigured abilities, its protagonist summoning a javelin formed from a swarm of bats before exploring the game's world on the back of a motorcycle.
Code Vein 2 is set to launch sometime in 2026.
