These Are the 5 Hottest Home Trends of 2025, According to Realtor.com

The top home trends of 2025, according to Realtor.com, include more than a few surprises. Two beloved design styles rose to the top of the pack, but it was a specific home feature that took the number one spot this year. If you don’t already have some of these features in your home, you might consider adding them—or if you’re in the market for a new home, take Realtor.com’s advice by looking out for these popular listing terms.

Sustainability Features Are the Most Popular Trend of 2025

Smart Water Savings

WaterSense fixtures saw a 289% increase in listing mentions in 2025, making them the fastest-growing home trend of the year. WaterSense is a label that guarantees a product meets water efficiency standards set by the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Home products with this label are top-rated for water-saving and performance; Realtor.com estimates that these fixtures can reduce water usage by at least 20%.

It’s no surprise that these features are becoming more valuable in the real estate market. Not only are WaterSense features better for the environment, but they can also help you save a significant amount of money on your water bill.

Net-Zero-Ready Homes

Net-zero-ready homes took fourth place in Realtor.com’s ranking this year. This term saw a 100% increase since 2024. It’s another way that homeowners are making their houses more eco-friendly (and lowering their energy bills, too). A net-zero-ready house is rated by the Department of Energy and is typically around 40% to 50% more energy efficient than the average home. These homes offer high-efficiency appliances, improved window technology, great air quality, and are solar-ready, among other energy-saving features.

EV Charging

Another top sustainability home feature on the list is electric vehicle (EV) charging. It’s no surprise that listings with EV charging options are already prevalent; more and more homeowners are looking for homes that already offer a convenient way to charge an EV. This listing term rose nearly 92% over the past year.

“We’re seeing homeowners prioritize features that make their properties more efficient, resilient, and self-sustaining,” said Anthony Smith, senior economist at Realtor.com, in a press release. “Buyers increasingly view eco-friendly upgrades as both a lifestyle choice and a smart financial investment—especially as energy costs and climate concerns become part of everyday decision-making.”

Biophilic and Coastal-Modern Are Design Winners

The second most popular feature in 2025 is biophilic design. Homeowners want more access to nature, even from the comfort of their own living room. Interior courtyards were one major indoor-outdoor feature, along with living walls and large glass doors. Designs that let in lots of natural light, offer beautiful views of the outdoors, and bring organic elements inside remain popular; listings that included biophilic (or indoor-outdoor) features rose almost 163%.

Another top design style is coastal modern. This light and airy decorating focuses on modern furniture paired with seaside colors and accents. You’re likely to see lots of neutrals in a coastal modern home, accented with soft blues. Like indoor-outdoor homes, a lot of focus remains on incorporating organic textures and materials like live-edge wood, woven rugs, wicker chairs, and rattan furniture.

Coastal modern saw a 125.6% increase on Realtor.com, but the platform found that the average listing price for a coastal modern home was the highest out of the top 5 search terms at $1,275,000.

The top five home trends of 2025, according to Realtor.com, are:

  1. WaterSense Fixtures
  2. Biophilic / Indoor-Outdoor
  3. Coastal Modern
  4. Net-Zero Ready
  5. EV Charging
