The Marvel Rivals Season 5 release date is locked in, but a new hero steals Rogue and Gambit's thunder

Marvel Rivals has been on a generational tear with its new hero additions as of late. Between the arrival of muscle queen Angela and quite possibly the toughest visual representation of Daredevil I've ever seen, we've been feasting to an unfathomable degree. Continuing its run of top-tier characters, NetEase has confirmed via a new trailer that X-Men power couple Gambit and Rogue will be headlining Season 5, and you won't have long to wait for the next big patch to land.

Ahead of the big matrimonious reveal, NetEase cordially invited us all to Krakoa for a showstopping wedding. Gambit and Rogue were canonically married in X-Men Gold #30 back in 2018, so it's all above board as far as the lore purists are concerned. The invite card unveiled the name of Marvel Rivals' fifth season, 'Love is a Battlefield,' and the new trailer confirms that it'll be as chaotic as we'd expect it to be.

The trailer opens with Wolverine questioning if Gambit's sure about going ahead with getting hitched, followed by a montage of the to-be-weds being all cool and cute and stuff; there's even a shot of Gambit with his arms wrapped around Rogue's leg (*insert Yugi Muto slamming the floor meme*). Likewise, (presumably) Beast queries Rogue's resolve, though ultimately the pair reaffirm they're ready for anything; the monkey's paw curls. Naturally, everything turns bleak and the X-lovebirds have to cut the ceremony short, but I'm sure they'll get back to it eventually.

Though their roles have yet to be confirmed, leaks have suggested that Gambit will be a Duelist, while Rogue will slot into the Marvel Rivals character roster as a Strategist. With pretty much all of the most recent additions quickly establishing top spots in our Marvel Rivals tier list, I won't be surprised if they follow suit. If my ears don't deceive me, the X-Men '97 cast have been pulled in for VA duty, which I love.

It may be Rogue and Gambit's big day, but NetEase couldn't help but take the opportunity to tease the true star of the show. About a minute into the trailer, a wedding ring spins, revealing a particularly pained-looking Cyclops. This doesn't necessarily confirm that Scott's on the docket for Season 6 (this could be another Blade situation), but it all but cements him as an upcoming playable hero. Marvel Rivals is going ever-harder on the X-factor, and I'm all for it.
