Nvidia GeForce RTX 50 Super cards probably not cancelled, but are delayed, says latest leak

Q3 next year. That's when the latest rumors suggest the Nvidia GeForce RTX 50 Super series will launch, thanks to a significant delay in production due to shortages in VRAM chips. This would make for a six-month pushback on the original expected launch of the cards in Q1 2026.

This huge setback is likely to be a big disappointment to many buyers who were hoping to upgrade to the likes of the RTX 5070 Super and benefit from the big increase in VRAM these cards were expected to include. Our own tests have shown the limitations of not enough VRAM in what are otherwise some of the best graphics cards around, and the expected jump would have totally alleviated those issues for several Nvidia GPUs.

The new rumor of a delay comes from regular tech leak source, MEGAsizeGPU (@Zed_Wang), on X. In response to articles referencing previous rumors of a complete cancellation of the RTX 50 Super series, MEGAsizeGPU responded, saying, "No cancellation yet, just delayed. Now planned to launch in 26Q3, previously set to launch in 26Q1."

This suggests that previous rumors of an impending launch of a new lineup of RTX 5000 Super GPUs were correct in pointing to a likely unveiling at the CES trade show in January, but that this date has now been pushed back. A data range of Q3 would mean that their arrival would now be no sooner than July 2026.

The reason for this reported delay is a shortage in VRAM chips. Current RTX 5000 series cards use 2Gb VRAM chips, but the Super series is expected to move to 3Gb VRAM chips, providing a 50% boost in total VRAM capacity for several cards in the range. However, these chips have faced huge demand for use in GPU-based products for AI applications, such as data-center GPUs. With these products reportedly being far more profitable than producing consumer graphics cards, it's understandable that Nvidia may have prioritized those product lines.

As for what this means for further future Nvidia GPU launches, MEGAsizeGPU goes on to respond to questions of a possible RTX 60 series launch, saying both that it's "too early to predict RTX60's launch date at this point" and that "I have no faith that the RTX 60 will launch on time at any point in 2027." So that's reassuring.

However, all this is rumor and conjecture. Nvidia hasn't confirmed the existence of an upcoming RTX 50 Super series, let alone a delay of its launch or the reason for it, so take all this information with a grain of salt for now.
