A beloved strategy game that gets Battlestar Galactica right is about to leave Steam forever, so grab it while you can

While Battlestar Galactica Deadlock no longer sits in the exclusive club that is our best turn-based strategy games list, it's still one of the finest interactive takes on the iconic sci-fi universe. We hailed it as "a TV tie-in that's actually good" back when it launched in 2017, but if you want to play it for the first time, you'll need to buy one within the next week. Developer Black Lab Games and publisher Slitherine confirm that Battlestar Galactica Deadlock is being pulled from sale across all platforms, including Steam, although you'll still be able to access it if you already own a copy.

Battlestar Galactica Deadlock puts you in the shoes of an executive officer during the First Cylon War. You report to Lucinda Cain (a relative of the Battlestar Pegasus commanding officer, Admiral Helena Cain) and are stationed on the Daidalos, a mobile shipyard that acts as the heart of the Colonial Fleet's command chain. You can think of proceedings somewhere between Total War and XCOM; you're doing your best to push against Cylon fleets, while also juggling the panic levels of the various colony planets to ensure they don't pull their support from the alliance.

In our Battlestar Galactica Deadlock review, Matt praised Black Lab for its success in capturing "the feeling of being on the back foot, which is what Battlestar Galactica is all about." Crucially, unlike the show's Second Cylon War, there's no computer isolation, meaning Cylons are able to hack your ships and systems to create additional moments of crisis when you least expect them. It's a strong attempt at recreating the tension of the TV series, and one that's earned itself a thumbs up from 88% of Steam players.

Unfortunately, your time to buy a copy of the strategy game is almost up. "Starting November 15, 2025, Battlestar Galactica Deadlock and all its DLCs will no longer be available for purchase on any platform," the developer writes. "This marks the end of an era for our space fleet, and we want to give everyone a proper heads-up to grab the game while it's still available." It confirms that anyone who owns a copy "can continue playing it without any restrictions."

Battlestar Galactica Deadlock Steam message: "Starting November 15th, 2025, Battlestar Galactica: Deadlock and all its DLCs will no longer be available for purchase on any platform. This marks the end of an era for our space fleet, and we want to give everyone a proper heads-up to grab the game while it

While there's no sale on Steam at the time of writing, Battlestar Galactica Deadlock is 70% off via GOG, meaning you'll pay $11.99 / £9.00 for your copy. You'll find it here, or you can head this way instead if you'd rather own it on Steam; expect to pay $39.99 / £33.50 if you do so.
