10 Closing Prayers to Anchor Your Bible Study in God’s Truth

Christianity / Life / Prayer / 10 Closing Prayers to Anchor Your Bible Study in God’s Truth

Bible Study is a sacred place for seeking the truth of God's Word, and learning how to apply it to our everyday lives. There is a reason why community and group study are important. A reason God said we should not live this life alone. Though individual study is crucial to the development of our faith, so is small group Bible study.

This article gathers 10 short, Scripture-rooted closing prayers to end your Bible study well. Turn to these prayers when you want to ask God for blessing, wisdom, help to apply the lessons you've learned, remembering the truth, having a daily desire for Scripture, gratitude for fellowship, and strength in the Holy Spirit. Allow your Bible study group to go out into the world with mission and encouragement in God’s Word.

The people we gather with who do accomplish this are placed on purpose by the Lord Himself. Never accidental, every Word of Scripture and person in our lives is absolutely purposeful. The most important element of Bible study is prayer. We often pray at the beginning of our study, asking for open minds and hearts to learn and receive God's Word. But let's not forget the importance of book-ending our Bible study with prayer, as well.

The following 10 prayers will help your Bible study group walk away with a powerful reminder of the truth studied and the mission to carry it out into our daily lives and our communities. I pray they are a blessing to you and the people in your study. I hope they uplift your hearts and cement God's truth in your minds.

1. A Closing Prayer for Blessing

Father,
Today, we pray your blessing over what we have studied and over our lives. Bring joy, peace, and hope into our lives, today and every day, as only You can. Father, we gather here to seek you, knowing that when we seek you with all of our hearts, we will find you. We confess, Lord, how often we rush through our days without giving sufficient thought or time to noticing you. Thank you for that wonderful truth, and for meeting with us here today. Bless our journey as we leave and return to our daily routines. Keep us safe and secure. Bless our lives with your presence after we part from this place, and remain close to us throughout the day, and always. Thank you for the gift of forgiveness and freedom we embrace through your Son, Jesus, and the sacrifice he made with his life to save ours. Bless our lives with your favor, God. We want to know you more each day.
In Jesus’ Name,
Amen.

2. A Closing Prayer for Wisdom

Father,
Father, we want to establish godly wisdom in our lives, but we need your help to plant those seeds and water them to fruition. Thank you for gathering us here today to foster the growth you have begun in our hearts and minds. Bless the words we have read, studied, and shared here today to sink deep into the rich soil of our souls, maturing our faith as we seek more and more of you. It’s by your truth, God, the world turns. When earth seems full of chaos, we know you remain in sovereign control. Your wisdom guides us through difficulty, allowing us – not just to get through tough times – but to thrive and lead others to you. Let the wisdom you are developing in our daily lives bring honor and glory to you, God. Because it is by you that all things progress. Bless us with godly wisdom and the desire to seek you with all of our hearts every day.
In Jesus’ Name,
Amen.

3. A Closing Prayer to Put God's Word into Action

Father,
The Bible says, “For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.” (Hebrews 4:12) Often the most important thing we need to do in order to see your Word activate in our lives is to submit to you, and allow the work of the Holy Spirit to guide us. Help us to free our minds from the troubles, worries, and busyness that consume such an abundance of our time. Help us to put our devices down and allow our minds the quiet space we need to genuinely connect with you, Father. Mature our hearts to carry those intimate moments of study during our daily quiet time into every thread of our lives. This is the way we put your Word into action. You will faithfully connect the dots of our days as we pause to listen to you and recall what we’ve studied.
In Jesus’ Name,
Amen.

4. A Closing Prayer to Remember That What God Says Is True

Father,
Scripture says, “All your words are true; all your righteous laws are eternal.” -Psalm 119:60) We gather to study your word, God, because we need your help to understand it, and how it relates to our everyday lives. We know that it does. We trust that it does. But in order to allow it to penetrate our minds and hearts in a way that motivates true maturity, we need the help of your Holy Spirit to move things into place so that we can see the full picture from your perspective. God, help us to understand, so we remember. As daily life moves on after we meet, it is challenging to keep the recent truth we have learned from you top of mind. Faithfully remind us!
In Jesus’ Name,
Amen.

5. A Closing Prayer to Live Out the Bible Study Lesson

Father,
The desire to study your word and follow your Son, Jesus, is one thing. Actually doing that is extremely difficult! Though some days are hard, help us to remember the joy, peace, and hope that will fill our lives as we faithfully follow you anyway. When things get hard …when we feel actual pain …when unfairness slaps us upside the head – those are the times it gets extremely challenging to control our reactions and maintain our focus. Bless us with self-control in times of adversity, God. We need the supernatural strength of your Holy Spirit to be successful in following Jesus when it’s really hard. And when the days are easy and the load is light, don’t let us forget you! Let all we do express our gratitude towards and bring glory to you, God.
In Jesus’ Name,
Amen.

“Your Word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path.” (Psalm 119:105); closing prayer to read God's Word every day

6. A Closing Prayer for the Desire to Read God's Word Every Day

Father,
“Your Word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path.” (Psalm 119:105) We cannot see without you, God. Your word illuminates our lives so that we can adapt to your perspective. Father, we want to see the world the way you do! We want to see people the way you do! It’s easy to remember you during a beautiful sunrise, but harder to understand where you are during a hurricane. God, it’s an easy ‘yes to love other people when they align with all of our opinions, but it can be difficult not to put up walls when they start bumping into our comfort zones. Give us the desire to read your word every day, so that we never lose sight of you …or the perspective you bless our lives with to see as we seek you.
In Jesus’ Name,
Amen.

7. A Closing Prayer of Thanks for Fellowship

Father,
Thank you for souls gathered together here today. You never put people in our lives by accident, God. You are sovereign, omnipotent, and faithful. Your plans for us are good. You are for us, with us, and there for us. In so many ways, the people you purposefully place in and around our lives accomplish those things according to your will. That means this group, today, gathered here, is no surprise to you. We pray that you would show us why you placed us in each other’s lives, God, and help us to live out your purpose for us in this space, and in our everyday lives. Thank you, God, for making sure we are not alone in this life. We have the gift of your presence through Christ Jesus and each other. Let us never lose gratitude for either.
In Jesus’ Name,
Amen

8. A Closing Prayer for the Holy Spirit's Strength

Father,
Through our full acceptance of Christ Jesus, we experience the incarnate power of the Holy Spirit in our lives. A strength beyond our power to create, you exercise your love for us in this way, giving us the ability to accomplish more than we could ever dream without you. Thank you for going ahead into our futures and preparing the way, God. For walking through our daily lives with us. For caring about what we care about, in the perfect and loving way only you could. Father, we pray today for an extra dose of Holy Spirit strength. We cannot do the things you have planned for us – or even know what they are – without the miraculous way you illuminate our minds and strengthen our hearts. There is no other way we would want to walk through this life. All glory to you.
In Jesus’ Name,
Amen.

9. A Closing Prayer to Embrace God's Will

Father,
Your will for our lives seems so abstract sometimes. We can’t see it or know it. You put dreams in our hearts and give us natural talents and abilities. But putting all of the puzzle pieces together eludes us so often. Help us to shake doubt and lay our worries down at your feet. Give us godly confidence and the determination we need to do the hard work required to see the full scope of what you plan to accomplish with our lives. You don’t need our help, God, but you so gracefully incorporate us into your plan, and we love you for that. We get to experience more than we could ever ask for or imagine on this side of heaven, as Scripture proclaims. We can only imagine what it will be like to arrive home in heaven. Guide each stage of our growth on the way there.
In Jesus’ Name,
Amen.

10. A Closing Prayer of Protection

Father,
In today’s world, safety is not a daily guarantee. Even for those of us who live in more privileged corners of the world, danger lurks – ready to seep into our lives and steal our joy. The pain of this world is unavoidable, God, this we know, but that is a difficult reality for us to embrace. We want to make it so that none of us hurt, and that’s just not possible this side of heaven. Help us to cope with that reality, God. We pray, today, for your protection. Though the world is full of calamity, we also believe in the power of prayer. Protect our health and safety, today, and always. Protect us from natural disasters, wars, violence, and theft. Protect us from sickness, mentally and physically. Protect us from spiritual attacks and from our enemies. Bless and protect us, God.
In Jesus’ Name,
Amen.

Keep these ten closing prayers bookmarked for reference as you gather for Bible Study. Our prayer is that they would help you remember what you have studied and equip you to carry it into your daily lives. If you are looking for prayers to open your study, click here.
