This Is the World's Favorite Color (and How to Decorate with It)

Did you know that the nation has a new favorite color? Well, a most-loved Crayola color, that is. The brand surveyed participants to find out their absolute favorite Crayola color, and one shade of blue won by an overwhelming margin, especially in the U.S. In 46 out of 50 states, Cerulean was the fan-favorite shade. In fact, it even stole first place in other countries, too, including the UK, Canada, and Australia.

Calming shades of blue are clearly on the rise. The world's second-favorite Crayola color is the delicate Robin’s Egg Blue, while Wisteria comes in third. Cerulean is a clear blue tone that’s both timeless and classic. Robin’s Egg Blue lives up to its name—it’s a lighter blue, with a soothing greenish hue. Wisteria is a light, calming shade of purple that feels fitting for illustrating any garden.

Why Does Everyone Love Blue So Much?

The most common emotional insights that Crayola gathered from its Global Color Vote were: happy, comforted, calm, creative, and nostalgic. While happiness is associated with brighter colors, like Canary, according to Crayola, it’s no surprise that shades of blue and purple often fall within the soothing category, especially in interior design.

Domicele Jonauskaite, PhD, experimental color psychologist at the University of Lausanne, Switzerland, says that most people prefer blue or green to orange or yellow, and that lighter colors are preferred over darker shades.

“Crayola’s finding that Cerulean is liked the most fits these general trends,” Jonauskaite says. "Blue is liked because it is reminiscent of clear water and blue sky, all very positive natural phenomena. Other experiences are more personal.”

So, how can you bring the world’s favorite shades of blue (and purple) into your own space? With colors that are as popular as these, it’s a whole lot simpler than you might think.

How to Incorporate Blue Hues into Your Home

Calming colors are a continuous hit in interior design because of the emotions they evoke when we look at them. Entering a bedroom that’s painted a light blue color feels soothing and relaxing; a bathroom that’s a soft shade of green is pleasant to bathe in.  All three of Crayola’s most popular blues would make a beautiful paint palette; Cerulean is good for a bolder and more uplifting look, while Robin’s Egg Blue and Wisteria will be more soothing.

For a spa bathroom, soft blue-toned accents are always popular. They make you feel more relaxed, naturally invoke thoughts of water and cleanliness, and can even help brighten a room, making your bathroom feel bigger

Whether or not you choose to pick up a new can of paint, colorful accents are always an easy way to incorporate your favorite palette. You can try painting your trim a certain color—Wisteria would look gorgeous in a botanical-inspired bedroom, for example—or selecting a few pieces of furniture to makeover (like a colorful bathroom vanity).

Alternatively, opt for accents that are easier to swap out, like throw pillows and blankets. While Crayola’s fan-favorite colors are a year-round affair, you could always choose a couple of colors to use as seasonal accents. Wisteria is fantastic for spring and summer, and you might swap it out come winter for a Cerulean accent or two.

Enjoy Crafting with Crayola's Fan-Favorite Colors

Crayola may not have its own interior paint line, but it certainly has a fun opportunity to enjoy the world’s favorite colors coming soon. The brand’s “World’s Favorite Colors” collection will launch across retailers worldwide for the holidays and will remain available into 2026. The collection includes crayons, marker packs, colored pencils, activity kits, and themed coloring books.
