There's nothing quite like some hot competition to force down prices, and the Samsung 9100 Pro is the latest PC component to tumble down the price ladder. We've already seen this SSD in a few deals since the launch of the competing WD Black SN8100, but the latest savings are massive, with up to $100 shaved off the cost of this super-fast SSD.

I was blown away by the fast performance of this drive in my Samsung 9100 Pro review, and while it's since been superseded by the WD Black SN8100 when it comes to peak performance, it's still a very fast drive, and a great buy at the latest prices. After all, just two months ago, this Samsung drive was the fastest gaming SSD you could buy.

All the models have dropped in price, but the sweet spot for me is the 2TB model, which cost a colossal $299.99 at launch, but can now be bought for just $239.99, saving you $60 on the original price – that's a 20% drop in just two months. Even the heatsink model has had a similar drop in price, again with $60 knocked off it.

The biggest saving in terms of money (but not percentage) is on the 4TB drive, however, which has dropped a massive $100, taking it from $549.99 to $449.99. It's still very expensive at that price, of course, but you do get a huge 4TB of super-fast storage, giving you loads of room for the latest game installs.

Even the 1TB model has had a decent drop in price, coming down from $199.99 to $169.99, although that's still a lot of money for just 1TB of space, even if it's fast. If you're going to pick up a new drive, I'd buy the 2TB model – it offers the biggest price saving proportionally, and $239.99 is actually a fair price for a 2TB SSD at this level of performance.

Be warned, though, that while this drive runs cooler than some of the first-gen PCIe 5.0 drives, it does run hot. You'll either want to buy the heatsink version, or use a chunky PCIe 5.0 SSD heatsink if you got one with your motherboard. You'll need a PCIe 5.0 M.2 slot to run this drive at full speed too, which you can usually find on the best motherboards today, but check yours first to make sure – the drive will still work in a PCIe 4.0 M.2 slot, but only at half the speed.
