New Battlefield 6 update will stop pushing you into battle royale spinoff Redsec if you don't play it
Battlefield 6 has been a real triumph so far; a return to bombastic brilliance for a series that has brought us some of the best FPS games of all time. To supplement this, its developer has deployed its contender to Call of Duty Warzone. Battlefield Redsec is a free-to-play companion to BF6 that includes a battle royale and a gauntlet mode where teams race to complete challenges, and it's largely a good twist on the formula, even if its Steam reviews might tell you otherwise. But it's not for everyone, and Battlefield Studios has just responded to complaints that challenges were pushing the mode on them with a very welcome change.
Redsec's reviews have recovered somewhat from the initial outpouring of negativity, which was largely spurred by Battlefield 6 players with an ax to grind. On the one hand, many asked why the free Steam game was given a vast map filled with destruction and ways to flank opponents, yet even the biggest Battlefield 6 maps feel a bit meager by comparison.

The other notable complaint was from people who had no interest in the Redsec format, yet felt they were being coerced into playing it by the in-game challenges. When you've got those unchecked items on your to-do list, there's a desire to tick them off, and even rerolls would typically leave you needing to dip into Redsec's modes.
Fortunately, that's no longer the case. The Battlefield Comms account confirms via social media that the team has adjusted the way rerolling challenges works. "Now, when rerolling a challenge, this change will prevent Battlefield 6 players from receiving a challenge that can only be completed in Redsec," it explains.
The developer adds, "Redsec players will continue to receive additional challenges that can be completed in Redsec when rerolling a challenge. Which challenge you gain after rerolling will still be random. Thanks for your feedback on this topic." As someone who has never been one for the elimination format, I'm certainly glad for the change, as I can once again fill my task list with quests I'm actually able to complete.
