Re-Logic confirms the Terraria 1.4.5 release window, and it finally feels real after three years in the making
Back when I first reported the existence of Terraria 1.4.5 in January 2023, creator Andrew 'Redigit' Spinks described it as a smaller project to tie up a few loose ends, with the team eager to start something new. Three years later, Re-Logic finally has a launch window that it's confident in, and it sounds like we'll finally be returning to one of the best sandbox games of all time by January at the latest. In its latest Terraria State of the Game, head of business strategy Ted 'Loki' Murphy shares all the details that have gone into wrapping up the overhaul.
You can scroll down our entire Terraria page for dozens of stories covering all the various additions that have been woven into the indie game's 1.4.5 update in the time since its inception. Among those are cars that can drive along the back walls, more summoner gear, the Dead Cells crossover, ability-altering character transformations such vampire bats and fairies, dangerous weather, roller skates, automated hoppers for AFK farming, bombs, dinosaur mounts, and even pets from Palworld that can handle menial tasks like tunnel digging.

So when can we play it? "We are realistically looking at a launch window for Terraria 1.4.5 that is between mid December and the end of January," Murphy confirms. That's pretty soon, although he emphasizes, "It is impossible to predict at this point where things will fall in that window. There are far too many moving parts that could break either for us or against us to say at this time. However, we do feel good about the time window itself."
As for what's still in the works, Murphy says "parallel beta testing is underway on most platforms so that we can go ahead and capture and fix bugs as they arrive." The team has also been working on localization, including first-time additions for Korean, Japanese, and Traditional Chinese. Finally, it's been dealing with all the nitty-gritty of "planning for things like first-party submissions and any additional work needed by our global partners in order to enable a global sync launch."
A January release would certainly ease the pressure on Re-Logic of not having to worry about patches or hotfixes during the holiday season, but I'm sure it would love nothing more than to deliver Terraria 1.4.5 as a December gift. "Again, we are very aware that this update has taken far too long to reach completion," Murphy notes. "All we can do is share our apology for that time span and just know that we are doing our best to get it out as quickly as we can."
The Terraria 1.4.5 release date will fall somewhere between mid December 2025 and the end of January 2026. Murphy adds that the team "cannot wait to share the plans for the future as well, once the update is out and all fixed up post launch." That'll likely include the arrival of cross-play if all goes to plan, but beyond that? Terraria 2, perhaps? Something entirely new? We'll have to wait and see.
