If you want a break from Risk of Rain 2, my favorite new roguelike is pretty close and super cheap

I've spent more time playing the best roguelike games than any other genre. Across countless games, ranging from the card-popping satisfaction of Balatro to the fast-paced action of Hades, roguelikes and roguelites keep me hooked like nothing else. So another one is never a bad thing to me. Godbreakers is among the latest, having just launched on October 23, and it delivers melee-based co-op combat with a pinch Risk of Rain 2's style and chaos. It's already available at a nice discount, and there's even a Steam demo if you fancy trying it out first.

A roguelike lives and dies by its gameplay. No one wants a replayable game that's dull and quickly gets repetitive, which is fortunately not the case with Godbreakers, thanks to its snappy levels and top-tier combat. While the narrative isn't exactly mindblowing (although its world-devouring AI scourge does hit close to home), the focus remains largely on that roguelike hook.

From stealing your enemies' abilities to the gripping pattern-watching phases of each boss, every run feels largely fresh and challening in some new way. It helps that there's a sizeable arsenal of weapons to take into the fight with you, each with its own moveset and playstyle.

What I like most about Godbreakers is that it delivers exactly what a great roguelite always should - it's simple to learn, yet hard to master. It's easy to get to grips with the moment-to-moment action, and you'll find yourself slipping into a flow state in no time, but crafting the best builds will take effort and a mastery of its systems.
