World of Warcraft may still hold the spot as the industry's biggest MMORPG, but after a rough launch, Elder Scrolls Online has been growing into an immense experience. Now they're practically begging for you to join in on the fun, with a bundle worth over $350 / £290 of content at a fraction of the price. So if you've waited, not only will you benefit from the game now being significantly more polished, but you'll have much more story content to get through too.

Our list of best MMORPGs is full of titans of the genre, and Elder Scrolls Online stands proudly alongside them. Tamriel Unlimited, a rebranding of the game back in 2015, did an excellent job of fixing problems that would've killed bigger games at launch, and while the endgame is still up for discussion, the PvE elements of the MMO are a lot of fun, with the likes of Trials (you'll probably know them as raids) and Group Dungeons – as well as the main quest lines as well.

Now, over 11 years since its initial release, Elder Scrolls Online is better than ever. Set 1,000 years before the events of Skyrim, and 800 years before the fourth game, the story covers many struggles in Tamriel, including a clash with the Daedric Prince, Molag Bal, who is trying to merge different planes of reality. It's a lot of fun if you're looking for a less solitary experience after losing yourself in Oblivion Remastered and a chance to carve out your own legend.

That means tackling dangerous monsters, exploring dungeons, and teaming up with like-minded citizens as you complete a long list of quests. The base game has a lot of good content, but there have also been eight expansions or 'chapters' released since launch, and by joining (or returning) now, you'll have loads of content to enjoy that will make any fans of the best RPG series happy.

Developer ZeniMax Online Studios has been overhauling the game for 2025, so even if you dipped your toes into the world years ago, now could be a good chance to dive back in with all the expansions. New chapters don't just happen onsce a year either, as there's a new seasonal model similar to the free MMO Destiny 2.

It's also still very lively. On Steam Charts alone, there's a peak of over 26,000 players at the time of writing – and that's only taking Steam itself into account. A couple of years back, the game was free with the Epic Games Store, so there's a large portion on there – plus, there's talk of Elder Scrolls Online getting crossplay in the future, so console and PC players can raid together soon (hopefully).
