The Outer Worlds 2 For Whom The Bridge Tolls quest walkthrough
The Outer Worlds 2 For Whom The Bridge Tolls quest walkthrough
How do you complete For Whom The Bridge Tolls in The Outer Worlds 2? On Eden, you're tasked with chasing De Vries to the Vox Relay. Along the way, you may run into Senior Warden Weintraut on the bridge, adding the 'For Whom The Bridge Tolls' side quest to your journal. It's a tricky quest with multiple parts, so here's a walkthrough of what you need to do.
Warden Weintraut tells you that they'll only give you access to the bridge if you bring two people to be executed. The Outer Worlds 2 pits a few factions against each other, hence the death penalty. Before you head out, check out the Outer Worlds 2 skills and Outer Worlds 2 perks you'll want to unlock to make your adventure easier.

You need to head back into the wilderness to find Ida Rutledge and Charlton Weintraut. One of them is a lot easier to get to the bridge than the other, and you'll likely need to complete some other side quests first.

Where to find Ida Rutlegde and get past the elevator
Ida Rutledge is the easier of the two to get back to the bridge. Well… at least a part of her is. If you head to Sovereign's Sweet Spire Grove in the southwest of the planet, you'll find an elevator up the cliff. However, it is broken, and you need your Engineering skill at three or higher to fix it. If you have that, then fix the elevator and take it up.
Don't worry if you can't do this, you still have options. If you climb on the boxes to the left of the elevator, you can keep climbing until you reach the cliff to the left. Once at the top, head over to the tall structure, and you'll see someone falling to their death right in front of you.
You'll suddenly meet some people who are working on this Grove, but they're stuck up in the tower. Before giving you a new side quest, they'll tell you that Ida is dead. Grab her severed arm from the machinery next to you and take that to Warden Weintraut at the bridge when you next head back.

Where to find Charlton Weintraut
Convincing Charlton Weintraut to head to the bridge to be killed isn't so easy, partly because they're actually alive. You can complete this second in tandem with most of the 'The Brain Benders of Auntie's Choice' side quest that'll help you get into the Vox Relay. While you'll be able to start the process of getting Charlton to agree to go to the bridge, you'll need to complete the other quest entirely before finally convincing him.
To start, speak to him in Westport; he's standing to the left of the main building. He'll tell you that he's committed to the Westport cause and has no intention of leaving. What you need to do is find Charlton's house in Westport and rummage through his stuff. His house is down towards the coast at the back of the town, so head right when you leave the main part of Westport. Be careful, as it's surrounded by hostile Crabble.
You'll find evidence on his terminal that he's an Auntie's Choice sympathizer (the file is called 'Hidden Ambitions') and that he has an addiction to one of their blueberry sweet treats. Pick up the case of them in his house, and head back to Charlton. While you're there, pick up the Shaina Grade Tossball Card on the desk next to the terminal for a permanent health upgrade.
Speak to him and he'll admit his opinion on the running of Westport and will agree to leave, provided Vigilant Hogarth agrees to it, too. This is where you need to complete 'The Brain Benders of Auntie's Choice' side quest.

How to persuade Charlton Weintraut to go to the bridge
Once that's complete, Hogarth and Charlton Weintraut will head to Fairfield to stay there. You'll find Charlton in the main building in Fairfield, where you met Milverstreet. He'll be standing at the reception desk there, so have a chat with him. At first, he'll still refuse, but a new dialogue option opens up if your Speech skill level is three or higher.
The dialogue options you need to select are:
- "There's an issue at the bridge that requires a true devotee. Someone willing to sacrifice." (Requires the quest to be active)
- "You work for Auntie's Choice now. Uh… go convert your cousin Marilyn to the cause, too." (Requires Speech 2 skill)
- "What happened to 'I throw caution to the wind!'? Are you a Get Up and Go Getter, or not?" (Requires Speech 3 skill)
Now, with both people either in tow or heading there themselves, you can head back to the Bridge yourself. Speak to the guard and you'll complete the quest, being given full access to the Bridge. However, that doesn't mean you get full access to the Vox Relay.
