Halloween party season is all about the details: the perfectly eerie playlist, festive decor, and of course, a fun food or beverage that brings it all together. If you’re looking for a quick, easy, and delightfully spooky cocktail garnish that will wow your guests, these edible “eyeballs” might steal the show. Made with just three ingredients, they’re simple to assemble and add a hauntingly realistic touch to any drink or punch bowl.

How to Assemble Your Edible Eyeballs

To make these spooky, edible eyeballs, you’ll only need a few simple ingredients: one can of lychees in syrup, fresh blueberries, and a few drops of red food coloring. You can find canned lychees in the international aisle of most grocery stores or at Asian markets.

1. Drain the Lychees

Start by opening the can of lychees and draining off most of the syrup (you can save it to use in cocktails later; it’s a great mixer). Gently remove each lychee from the can and set them on a paper towel to dry slightly. The fruit’s pale, glossy surface already gives it that eerie eyeball effect.

2. Add a Touch of Blood Red

In a small bowl, add a few drops of red food coloring to a tablespoon or two of the reserved syrup. Gently stir to combine, then lightly dip or brush the outside edges of each lychee with the tinted syrup. This creates a bloodshot look that makes the final garnish look extra spooky. A little goes a long way, as too much coloring can overwhelm the natural sheen of the lychee.

3. Insert the Blueberry

Take one blueberry and press it into the hollow center of the lychee, where the pit once was. The dark blue or blackish center instantly looks like a pupil and adds just the right amount of contrast against the pale lychee.

4. Skewer to Serve

Carefully thread a skewer or cocktail pick through the blueberry and lychee to hold everything in place. Rest one on the rim of your drink or let it float eerily inside a cocktail for maximum spook.

How to Enjoy

These edible eyeballs make the perfect finishing touch for a lychee martini, a naturally fitting choice since the base spirit pairs beautifully with the fruit’s floral sweetness. You can also add them to a bowl of red punch for a party-ready presentation that’s guaranteed to turn heads (literally). As they float and swirl in the punch, the “eyes” create a creepy, cinematic effect that’s just right for Halloween night.

If you’re serving mocktails, don’t worry, as these garnishes look just as good in a cranberry spritzer, sparkling water, or fruit punch.
