This Walmart Candle Smells Better and Lasts Longer than My $30 Candles—and It’s Only $5

Autumn is finally in full swing, which means it’s time to break out my favorite fall candles. On my most recent Walmart trip, I spotted the BHG Ribbed Jar Candle for just $5, so I added it to my cart to see how it compared to my favorites.

As a self-proclaimed candle connoisseur, I’ve tried dozens of candles from both affordable and high-end brands. When I brought this BHG candle home and lit it for the first time, I was shocked—it smells even better than my $30 Bath & Body Works Candles. It lasts much longer, too.

I used to be a loyal fan of Bath & Body Works candles, but I don’t like how quickly they burn, especially since they cost so much. My BHG candle, on the other hand, has a 40-hour burn time. I’ve already burned it for nearly 20 hours, and I’ve hardly made a dent in the wax.

While the scent isn’t as strong as some of the more expensive options I’ve picked up at the mall, I prefer the lighter fragrance because I can burn it all day long. The scent is noticeable without being overwhelming, which I love. It even comes in an elegant glass jar and is available in six different cozy scents that are perfect for fall.

I chose farm apple pumpkin because it combines the two most classic fall scents, apple and pumpkin, with notes of warm cinnamon, sweet maple butter, and a hint of orange. However, the candle also comes in several other best-selling fragrances, including warm leathered amber and firewood and spice. Each scent has a uniquely colored glass jar, so you can mix and match to create the ideal fall vibe amongst your home decor.

Even though it comes in a decorative glass jar, this candle is even cheaper than BHG’s regular jar candles. In fact, it’s less than half the price, and it’s actually larger at 16.1 ounces compared to 12 ounces.

This candle burns evenly, and as long as you let it melt all the way to the edge the first time you light it, it won’t tunnel and waste any of the wax. I also recommend trimming the wick after each use to ensure a clean burn and to help it last longer.

I love that this candle looks great on my counter and adds a warm, cozy vibe to my fall decor. And for just $5, I’m stocking up on all of my favorite scents before they sell out for the season.
