It's easy to forget just how much of a Steam megahit Euro Truck Simulator 2 actually is. With tens of thousands of people playing it at any given time, and a 97% rating from over 650,000 user reviews, SCS Software's in-depth cargo hauling sim is still going strong. I for one love turning my brain off and driving across the continent to deliver some precious cargo, and others tend to agree. The future of ETS2 is also looking incredibly bright, as SCS has finally teased a mechanic we've been waiting for.

In a new blog post from Saturday May 31,  Software drops a cryptic tease for the future of Euro Truck Simulator 2. It's not entirely clear when it's happening, but the team has all but confirmed that coaches and/or buses are coming to the simulation game. We've been clamoring for it for years, and some mods have helped make it happen, but this looks like the real deal.

The studio even has a teaser video of the feature, showing a coach emerge from behind a truck before it disappears off-screen, likely to take passengers all across the continent. "We've crossed borders, hauled freight, and explored countless cities across Europe," SCS writes. "But just like any great journey, the road is always full of surprises. Something different is pulling into view, a new way to experience the world of Euro Truck Simulator 2. See you at the next stop."

There's no telling when the feature will be out or how it'll work just yet, as a watermark at the bottom of the teaser says it's a "work in progress." That said, based on an image from the trailer that features a passport and travel guide, I'd imagine that these coach journeys will be long haul.

Most cities in Euro Truck Simulator 2 have a bus station of some kind, so it's not entirely surprising that SCS is finally teasing some sort of coach update or expansion. I just want to know if it'll come with a lingering smell, a child screaming their lungs out for the entire trip, and a coach toilet that no one can use despite it being fully functional. Only then will ETS2's coach journeys be as realistic as possible.

Coaches aren't the only big thing coming to SCS Software's transport series, though, as sister game American Truck Simulator is also getting an array of new vehicles for us to work with. Called 'Project Road Trip,' it'll introduce new cars to the game, alongside potential new tasks and jobs to help make driving them all the more engaging. Here's hoping that ETS2's coaches get a similar system, then.

We've also got all the best relaxing games and racing games you can play on PC today, while waiting for more on how coaches might work in ETS2.

You can follow us on Google News for daily PC games news, reviews, and guides. We've also got a vibrant community Discord server, where you can chat about this story with members of the team and fellow readers.
