The original and best Left 4 Dead suddenly spikes on Steam after major price cut

The original Left 4 Dead is a landmark multiplayer game. First launched back in 2008, the influence of Valve's zombie shooter can be felt in everything from Back 4 Blood and Killing Floor 3 to Hunt Showdown and Payday 3. It's still, nearly two decades later, a great choice to play with friends, blasting through crowds of shambling undead and trying to survive against all odds until finishing a level. And now, due to a massive discount on Steam, the game's player count has shot up to its highest number in nearly a year.

The first Left 4 Dead has mostly been supplanted by its sequel, which adds the original's campaigns to the second entry to the zombie game series. Still, some players evidently prefer sticking with L4D's debut, as shown by a recent spike in player count.

At the time of writing, Left 4 Dead has 1,846 concurrent players, which is a massive increase from the low of 269 it held just last Monday May 26, and the highest it's been since November, 2024.
