Overlooked DayZ style survival game is suddenly bigger on Steam than ever before

The exceptionally named Surroundead is centered on portraying a zombie apocalypse through a distinct, lo-fi visual style that sets it apart from similar games. Though it first hit Early Access back in 2022, a steep discount and solid user reviews seem to have given it new attention, with its player count currently rising on Steam.

Surroundead is a zombie game set years after the unstoppable spread of a virus destroyed civilization. Though its set-up may be familiar, it stands out for the breadth and quality of its design. In it, players have to explore to find the weapons and equipment they need to survive encounters with zombies and human enemies, and can also upgrade their character, engage in a trading system with other survivors, and use vehicles to travel or store their gear.

Though more features are set to arrive as it progresses through Early Access, the game's current state has already garnered a strong reception. It currently holds an 89% or 'Very Positive' rating based on 6,202 user reviews, and has just hit a new all-time peak of 2,666 concurrent players on Steam.
