How to get Meteor Shards, Gold Shards, and Obsidian Ore in 99 Nights in the Forest

Meteor Shards and Obsidian Ore are two new crafting materials added to 99 Nights in the Forest for the Meteor Shower event.

Both materials are sourced from the same general location with varying drop rates and resource requirements. When forged into ingots, both materials are used to craft the Obsidiron Chest Blueprint used to spawn the rare Obsidiron Chest.

How to get Meteor Shards and Obsidian Ore in 99 Nights

Meteor Shards and Obsidian Ore can both be mined from the shards of fallen meteors in 99 Nights in the Forest.

Meteor Shower events can appear from Day 5 onward and are preceded by a cutscene showing cultists coming into contact with large glowing rocks. The event text reads "the skies are on fire" when a Meteor Shower begins. The following morning, meteor crash sites can be found around the map.

For reference, we got the Meteor Shower event on Day 5 on our first and second runs, so it doesn't appear to be too rare.

Meteor crash sites feature lava in the centre with spiked, red rocky outcrops surrounding them.

These outcrops can be mined with the same axe you use to chop trees, revealing Meteor Shards, Gold Shards, and sometimes even Obsidian Ore. You can also get small quantities of these materials by defeating the Meteor Crabs that defend these crash sites.

What do you do with Obsidian Ore in 99 Nights?

Turning Obsidian Ore into an Obsidiron Ingot is a multi-step process. Here's what to do:

1. Find Raw Obsidiron Ore in a Meteor crashsite.
2. Drop the Raw Obsidiron Ore from a high place (like a watchtower) and collect the Broken Obsidiron Ore.
3. Drop the Broken Obsidiron Ore into lava (the middle of a meteor crashsite works great) to get the Scalding Obsidiron Ingot.
4. Drop the Scalding Obsidiron Ingot into water (like the fishing hole) to cool it off.

Once dropped in water, the Scalding Obsidian Ingot becomes a regular Obsidiron Ingot you can use in crafting recipes.

With enough Meteor Shards, Obsidiron Ingots, and Gold Shards ready, head to the red anvil on your map. This is the new Meteor Anvil area that only appears after a Meteor Shower event.

You'll have to battle your way through Meteor Crabs, so bring a friend, some good weapons, restoratives, or decent gear to clear it out.

Once safe, the Meteor Anvil area can be repeatedly accessed to craft new items like the Obsidiron Chest. Select the blueprint, add the items to the anvil, and away you go. The Obsidiron Chest Blueprint can be placed to spawn an Obsidian Chest.

What does the Obsidiron Chest do in 99 Nights?

Other than being craftable, the 99 Nights in the Forest Obsidiron Chest works like any other chest you find in the wild. Once opened, its contents spill out for anyone to add to their inventory or sack. As such, it's an infinitely repeatable way to spawn some high-tier loot.
