New Intel gaming GPUs weren't announced at Computex after all, but that doesn't mean that the chipmaker isn't hard at work. A new Linux driver update has just teased two previously unknown device IDs with Intel Battlemage codenames, suggesting that one could well be the recently teased Intel Arc B770 for gamers. Meanwhile, a new rumor suggests that, although the company is working on a new GPU, it won't be ready to launch until the end of the year.

Intel caused plenty of speculation that new Intel Arc Battlemage GPUs were on the way before Computex, but only Intel Arc Pro workstation cards were ultimately announced. Those might be quality products but they won't be among the best graphics card options for gamers. Instead, what we need are new Intel gaming GPUs, with these latest leaks possibly hinting such an arrival might be coming.

New Intel Battlemage GPUs added to Linux Mesa driver, as spotted in a post on X

First spotted by developer Lasse Kärkkäinen in a post on X (formerly Twitter), four new hardware IDs were added to a recent Linux Mesa graphics driver update.

Unlike other Intel device IDs, the chipmaker hasn't used a GPU die codename – for instance, BMG-G21 for GPUs such as the Intel Arc B580. Instead, the devices have been tagged with the more generic BMG (for Battlemage). While two of these IDs could relate to the two recently unveiled Intel Arc workstation GPUs, the other two remain unexplained so far.

Thankfully, further rumors about a brand new Intel Arc B770 could be a sign that at least one of these IDs relates to that unannounced card. According to Dutch website Tweakers, Intel is working on the B770, with "multiple sources" confirming its existence to Tweakers at the Computex 2025 trade show, but they also suggest the card is "expected to appear in the fourth quarter" of 2025.

Until then, Intel largely remains a spectator in the two-horse, AMD vs Nvidia, race for the GPU market. You can check out our AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT review next to see why AMD's card is currently the best option for the average gamer.
