A few weeks ago I finally completed Baldur's Gate 3. I stood triumphant as I took down the Netherbrain, rolling a nat 20 on my dominate check, only for it to beat me down anyway. Ever since, I've been craving more Dungeons and Dragons-inspired goodness, dipping my toes into Warhammer 40k: Rogue Trader and tentatively considering selling my soul to Neverwinter Nights. In my searches, however, Google threw up Tiny Tina's Wonderlands, the chaotic, tabletop-inspired Borderlands sequel that I remember being intrigued by. Now, the Epic Games Store has come to the rescue and saved me a few pretty pennies, because the game is currently going free.

Ahead of the Borderlands 4 release date, Tiny Tina's Wonderlands feels like a suitably chaotic way to while away the hours. An official sequel to Borderlands 2's iconic expansion, Tiny Tina's Assault on Dragon's Keep, Wonderlands thrusts you into a tabletop-inspired world and arms you with various guns, transforming the experience into a chaotic fantasy game and FPS hybrid.

The plot plays out as expected: you are a merry band of adventurers on a mission to stop the Dragon Lord. There are twists and turns along the way and big decisions to be made, but honestly, what could possibly go wrong?

You'll be able to choose from seven different classes – Brr-zerker, Blightcaller, Clawbringer, Graveborn, Spellshot, Spore Warden, and Stabbomancer – each of which has their own unique skillsets. There are frosty bruisers, druid-like mages, and glass-cannon assassins; it's up to you to choose which one you want to be, but if you can't decide on which, you can multiclass later in the game, borrowing various abilities from different trees.

The action, however, plays largely like the traditional Borderlands games. You'll be aiming down the barrel and shooting all manner of magical creatures, or bopping them with the myriad melee weapons you have at your disposal. Step aside, undead lich, I've got a machine gun and I'm not afraid to use it.

Accompanying Tiny Tina's Wonderlands is stellar horror game, Limbo, which was one of the first indie games that I ever interacted with. Blending traditional platformers with brain-teasing puzzles and an eerie, shadowy artstyle, it's an absolute must-play, even if those spiders do not make me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

Tiny Tina's Wonderlands and Limbo are free on the Epic Games Store until Thursday June 6 at 8am PST / 11am EST/ 4pm BST / 5pm CEST. You can pick them up right here.
