How to get and purify the Silent Hill f Sacred Sword

How to get and purify the Silent Hill f Sacred Sword
How do you get the Silent Hill f Sacred Sword? Once you've completed Silent Hill f for the first time, there's still plenty for you to do. Silent Hill f's New Game Plus mode offers new items, new areas, and new endings to unlock, and almost all of them involve the Sacred Sword.
If you're after the full completionist experience and want to get every one of the Silent Hill f endings, you're going to need to get the Sacred Sword at least twice. Follow our instructions below to unlock the special Silent Hill f weapon, find it, and purify it, which you'll need to do in at least one playthrough of the horror game.
To get the Sacred Sword in New Game Plus, you must first find five key items and offer them to five Jizo statues. While Jizo statues appear in normal mode, you cannot interact with them until you have one of the offerings in hand. The five items are:
- Faded Bride Doll
- Rusted Flask
- Broken Japanese Geta Sandals
- Cracked Hibachi Brazier
- Dad's Old Kitchen Knife
Faded Bride Doll
The Faded Bride Doll is located very early on in the game, before you've even fully descended the mountain into Ebisugaoka. A house to the east is now open to you. Go inside and upstairs, where you must pick up the Treasure Hunting Game Key. With the key, head back downstairs and use it on a treasure chest in the kitchen, revealing the doll.
With the doll in your inventory, leave the house and continue heading south. Turn left at the first available opportunity, and the first Jizo shrine is found sitting opposite the post box. Interact with it to offer the doll.
Rusted Flask
The Rusted Flask is located in front of Sakuko's family shrine in the north of the map. You can pick this up on your way to Rinko's house with Shu.
To find the Jizo Shrine, head back south and take the first left. Turn left again into a small garden where the shrine is located behind the building.
Broken Japanese Geta Sandals
The Broken Geta Sandals can be obtained before you enter the middle school. As you approach the school, turn back towards the southmost pathway, which is blocked off. The sandals are just in front of the blockage.
The Jizo Shrine for this item is on the other side of the blockage, meaning you need to go back around the long way. There's a small house with a path along the left side, at the end of which is the shrine.
Cracked Hibachi Brazier
When the current objective takes you to Shu's house, you can obtain the fourth item, the Cracked Hibachi Brazier. Venture around the back of Shu's house and down the right-hand side of a shed where the brazier is on the ground.
Head back around in front of Shu's house and along the path to the west until you see stairs on your right. Climb the stairs to find this Jizo Shrine.
Dad's Old Kitchen Knife
Himanko's dad's kitchen knife is lodged in a tree to the east of Shu's house, but can only be obtained when your current objective is 'Make your way down the mountain and head to the Shimizu residence.'
The Jizo Shrine for this one is close. Just turn back from where you found the knife, turn left as soon as you can, and the shrine is in front of you.
It's worth noting that all of these items remain in your inventory from one New Game Plus save to the other until you offer them at a shrine.
Sacred Sword location
Having made all five offerings, the Sacred Sword is now available to you at the Thousand Year Cedar. A cutscene plays out as you approach the tree, automatically granting you the sword when it ends.
That said, if you are trying to obtain the bad ending, it's best not to go to the tree at all. If you do trigger the cutscene, you must purify the sword to obtain the bad ending. More on that below.
How to purify the Sacred Sword
If you've accidentally picked up the Sacred Sword and want to unlock the bad ending, or you're trying to unlock the true ending, which requires the sword purification, this can only be done in the Main Hall in The Dark Shrine while chasing after Fox Mask.
To purify the sword, you must complete the Crimson Water Puzzle, which appears in an area unique to NG+ saves. Get here during the 'Chase after Fox Mask' objective by heading down a southeastern staircase from the Main Hall - 2nd Floor. This is hidden behind a breakable wall.
Once inside the new Hermitage of Crimson Water area, head to the stone in the oval area at the north of the map and interact with it. We're not sure if you can do the puzzle without triggering it first, so it's best to be safe. You now have to interact with three bells in order, in time with the sporadic auditory hints that sound like wood.
First, head back over the bridge and turn left. Follow the path until you reach the building. The first bell is on the back balcony, but don't ring it until you hear the auditory signal. Then, run as fast as you can to where you interacted with the stone. The second bell is hanging on the tree here. Ring it as soon as you can after hearing the tone. Finally, head back over the bridge, turn right, and another bell is hanging from a tree on your left. Ring this in time with the next wooden clacking sound. If you do this correctly, the water now runs crimson.
You don't actually purify the sword here. This is done back in Ebisugaoka, behind Shu's house, where crimson water now fills a stone vessel. We've marked the location on the map above. Interact with the water to purify the sword.
With all that done, the Silent Hill f Sacred Sword is now yours, purified or not. While you're checking off the various endings, be sure to collect all the Silent Hill f Omamori you might have missed, and read our Silent Hill f review to see what we thought of the game and its place in the iconic series after our first playthrough.
