With the debut of The Knit & Sew Shop and The Party Shop, the retailer has officially become the largest specialty fabric and party store in North America. The dual launch expands Michaels’ role beyond a craft supply stop, making it a destination for both creating and celebrating under one roof.

The Knit & Sew Shop: A Collaboration with Joann

Last spring, Michaels acquired the intellectual property and private label brands of Joann. Now, shoppers are seeing the aftermath in stores with The Knit & Sew Shop, which features the logos of both brands.

The collaboration has brought fabric back into Michaels in a major way. More than 840 stores now offer an expanded assortment, with plans to reach another 250 locations soon. The chain has also carved out more floor space for sewing supplies, 25% more, to be exact, and added professional-style cutting tables, dubbed “Cut Bars,” which will roll out in over 650 stores by mid-October.

Yarn enthusiasts are also in for a treat: Michaels is growing its yarn selection by 25%, adding hundreds of skeins alongside Joann favorites like Big Twist, arriving October 30. The aisles also now feature trusted sewing names, including Gütermann threads, Singer and Brother machines, Fiskars scissors, and over 50 new beginner-friendly kits designed to make sewing approachable for everyone.

The Party Shop: Your Newest Celebration Destination

Michaels didn’t stop at fabric. The retailer also launched The Party Shop, transforming its stores into celebration hubs with balloons, themed supplies, and more. Every location now features a Balloon Bar, offering both latex and foil balloons, as well as customizable bundles. Customers can order online, reserve a pick-up time, or even schedule balloon delivery up to four days in advance, with same-day delivery available in many areas.

Beyond balloons, Michaels has stocked shelves with 700 new party products, from DIY balloon arch kits to themed paper goods. Online, shoppers will find a staggering 79,000 options covering every kind of event, from birthdays to milestone anniversaries. Exclusive new collections, such as western rodeo, playful bows, and updated classics like blue gingham, offer even more ways to personalize a party.

Celebrations Made More Affordable

One of the most notable changes is pricing. Michaels has slashed the cost of in-store birthday parties from $299 down to $149, making it easier for families to host creative, stress-free gatherings. Parties include a guided craft led by a Party Captain, customizable add-ons, and easy online tools for sending invitations and managing RSVPs.
