Silent Hill f light puzzle solution

Silent Hill f light puzzle solution
How do you solve the Silent Hill f light puzzle? Silent Hill games are all about our protagonists facing their demons and dealing with guilt. In Silent Hill f, that protagonist, young schoolgirl Hinako Shimizu, has a lot of issues to contend with, not least her group of friends, their teenage insecurities, and fears of the future.
One of the best horror game series of all time, Silent Hill games might be renowned for their atmosphere, but they're also known for their tricky and incessant puzzles. Silent Hill f's Otherworld, The Dark Shrine, is full of intricate problems to solve, but the light puzzle is perhaps one of the trickiest. We played this puzzle in hard mode, but we will update this guide once we've played all difficulties.
How to solve the Silent Hill f light puzzle
The answer to solving this puzzle lies in a clue on the table: "Two must face each other as one… Those who do shall lift their heads to level height as if they were reflections in a mirror." This hints that something must be made to face something else.
Your first instinct might be to make the fox and rabbit levers face each other, but this actually isn't correct. Instead, this puzzle is about light. Within each of the two central cages is a lampshade, and when all six cages face each other at 'level height', you can obtain the two shades.
Seeing as how you can't move the first cage on the left, which is at floor height, we know that all cages must therefore be at this level. If you don't want to work this out for yourself, keep reading for a step-by-step solution to the puzzle in hard mode.
For this solution to work, the cages must be in their starting position, so you can quit the game and then hit continue, and you should be returned to an autosave at the start of the puzzle. If you want to check, make sure the save name is 'Obtain the key in front of the cage.'
Hard mode
From the beginning of the puzzle, follow these steps:
- Turn the left-hand fox three times
- Turn the right-hand fox three times
- Turn the right-hand rabbit three times
- Turn the right-hand fox once
- Turn the right-hand rabbit once
- Turn the right-hand fox once
- Turn the right-hand rabbit once
- Turn the right-hand fox twice
- Turn the left-hand rabbit once
- Turn the left-hand fox twice
- Turn the left-hand rabbit twice
- Turn the right-hand rabbit twice
- Turn the right-hand fox twice
This should result in the close statues facing away from each other, with the center two facing in towards each other. We have only played through in Hard mode so far, and will update this guide once we have the solutions for Story mode and Lost in the Fog mode.
With the cages lined up in the correct positions, the doors of the center two open up, revealing the lampshades inside. Pick them up and place them on the table back near the levers, but don't worry, the game positions these automatically.
And that's it, the Silent Hill f light puzzle is complete, and Hinako can finally address her issues with Sakuko once and for all. From here, she still needs to deal with her feelings about Rinko and Shu, which includes figuring out the Silent Hill f puzzle box solution and escaping the scarecrow field.
