CREAM CHEESE PUFF PASTRY DANISHES

Cream Cheese Puff Pastry Danishes

If you love this simple breakfast treat you will want to try out these delicious Breakfast Butter Swim Biscuits! They are hearty and perfect for a weekend morning.

❤️WHY WE LOVE THIS RECIPE

We love cream cheese and we love danishes! We also love easy recipes, and the shortcut of using the premade puff pastry dough really makes this one come together quickly. These would be a perfect addition to any brunch. The glaze is a great addition and brings the whole danish together. If you have ever been intimidated by dough and making something from scratch, try this version. You won’t be disappointed.

SWAPS

We make these with full-fat cream cheese because we find it tastes better. However, I think you could easily use the low-fat or fat-free version.

WHAT IS AN EGG WASH?

It’s simply an egg beaten and brushed on the pastry edges to give it a nice brown look. Some people mix water, milk, etc, with the egg. I just beat one egg (no extra liquid) and brushed it on the edges of each danish. You don’t have to do this step if you don’t want to.

We think these are just as good cold as they are hot! We made them, let them cool, and then added the glaze, and they were delicious. I stored them in the refrigerator and enjoyed them cold the next day.

These cream cheese danishes are so easy to make and your family will love them. Take the short cut and use the premade pastry dough.

Pastry Ingredients

  • 1 roll of puff pastry dough room temperature
  • 1 egg for egg wash

Cream Cheese Mixture Ingredients

  • 1 8 ounce package cream cheese, softened
  • 1/3 cup white granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Glaze Ingredients

  • 2 teaspoons of milk more if needed
  • 2 cups of powdered sugar
  • Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside.

  • In a mixing bowl, with a mixer, beat together cream cheese ingredients until fluffy.

  • Roll out the pastry dough and cut into 12 blocks. Place each block on your parchment paper lined baking sheet. Place two tablespoons of the cream cheese mixture in the center of each pastry.

  • Take a knife and score the edges of each danish, about ½ inch from the edge. You don’t want to cut all the way through the dough, but enough to make an indention.

  • Beat one egg and brush the edges with egg. This will give you a brown edge.

  • Bake in preheated oven for 12-14 minutes.

  • Combine glaze ingredients and drizzle over cooled danishes

  • Makes 12 danishes.

We keep any left over in the refrigerator. 

I am counting a serving as two danishes, so this recipe makes six servings. I don’t know anyone who only eats one danish. The recipe makes 12.
